    Any idea of species?

I'd say possibly Blackbird, or possibly a crow species of some sort? Details of the nest?

I'll direct my brother here, he'll be better able to tell you

No sign of an obvious nest or even leftovers of a damaged nest, its an open front shed. There were three dead chicks in total

Were they in a corner of the shed? Starlings often nest in cavities in the corners of houses and sheds. Looks big for a Starling, but kind of hard to tell. Any idea of what birds usually hang out on top of the shed or anything like that?

My money is on this. I haven't been able to find picks of blackbird chicks with yellow beaks. Jackdaw fits the bill (pardon the pun) on all pictures i've seen.
