Are you a pie, tart or crumble person?

The important questions that need answering...

I was out for dinner last night & deter was "Hot Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice-cream". It's my go-to desert. A perfect wedge of pie with buttery crust top & bottom, about an inch to an inch and a quarter thick, non of this lattice nonsense. Diced sweet apple in a sweet thick syrup, gently melting the serving of rich vanilla ice-cream sitting on top... the absolute perfect snack or dessert, especially with a good cup of coffee.

What arrived was an individual circular open topped glazed serving with ice-cream on the side. I ended up leaving half it there, it wasn't pie...

Which got me thinking, I'll eat apple tart if there's no pie, but I won't eat crumble at all. I'm a pie person.

    What are you?

    Crumble would be my choice.

Apple or berry crumble is a great breakfast dessert :D

I'm not a pie, tart or crumble person I don't eat desserts since they usually contain a lot of sugar, and sugar is the devil don't you know. The sugar tax can't come in soon enough hopefully they will double tax those sugary drinks that contain water too.

It really isn't, as Sean Connery says, nothing wrong with an open handed slap when she's been given plenty of warning.

I am none, I don't know how anyone would consider them a treat.

I'm a cake person. A chocolate cake person

Rhubarb tart and custard, orgasm on a plate :D

Another for rhubarb tart, but with whipped cream (on the side not melting all over the top)

I like crumble if it's a nice crumble, if the topping is soggy it's ruined!

F%ck the sugar tax. I'll be paying cash for my crumble

I'm sure I'm not the only one here wondering what the difference is between an apple tart and an apple pie. Aren't they the same thing?

Apparently, you can bang an apple pie but you can be a tart.

Wouldn't be bothered with crumble. Its
    name alone is so meh.

Hey. I'm weak and ineffectual. I'll fall over as soon as you look at me. How do ya like a plate full of crumbs.

Pies are cool 'cause they can be savoury sturdy feckers too. Pies have attitude.

Tarts are pretentious hipster pies. They can shag off for themselves.

I love them all. Wouldn't have a preference.

Tarts are open-topped pies, I think - no pastry on top.

Yep. Ice cream. You scream. Someone calls the Gards. Things get complicated.

The results are displayed in a pie chart, which means no matter what the outcome, that pie is the superior dessert.

I always thought it was a matter of depth; pies are deeper than tarts.
Also pies always have a top crust over the filling, whereas the top crust seems to be optional in a tart.

Anyway, both pie and tart are lovely but a well made crumble is the superior dessert.

    Whichever one doesn't have cloves.

Don't get me wrong clove sweets are nice and when I had toothache in the past I was practically OD'ing on clove oil (tip do not spill on your laptop it melts the plastic). There is a time and place for cloves.

What sort of sick twisted depraved mind thinks cloves go well with apple

I don't have a sweet tooth, but there's a wonderful little Austrian cafe close to the apartment where I'll sometimes pop in for a slice of apple strudel with clotted cream.

I made a nice berry and apple crumble today. Mixed in oats and a sprinkle of cinnamon with the flour/sugar/butter and it was feckin delicious.

Served hot out of the oven with ice cream AND cream thank you very much. And lots of Tae to wash it down

I am with the OP on this, I think most restaurants in Ireland don't cater to those of us that love a proper, decent pie, sweet or savoury. Apple pie should be thinly sliced apples enclosed in a deep pie case, top and bottom. The best apple pies I have ever had have been in Austria and Germany.

Slightly away from the topic, it drives me nuts when a meat pie in a restaurant is a pie dish full of filling and with only a pastry lid on top. That is not pie!!

I am pie eater and I am proud of it!

Crumble all the way for me. A good rhubarb or apple crumble is divine.

I'm not a huge fan of pastry.
