Have van booked in for Monday for vrt but forget what I need to bring with me. Bought from private seller with UK plates. Is it just a case of license and log book or do I need more items?

I see that require an invoice of sale. How strict are they on this as surly you wouldn't get an invoice for a private sale?

They would take an invoice written on the back of a fag packet TBH.

They're not cracking down on anything, it's a stupid system with zero verification, and staff are telling punters to write one up themselves.

It's up to you as buyer if you want to hand over dosh with a receipt or not.

The VRT folks in the NCT have been known to be kind enough to supply paper and pen in order to do up an invoice at the VRT appointment if one is not already available. As said it's a silly system as they have neither the means or the will to verify the invoice with the seller especially if they are outside the country. It's just a tick the box requirement. What happens now is that your insurance company is required to inform Revenue if your recently purchased foreign reg car hasn't been transfered over to an Irish plate after 30 days.
