    Hi,

I have a '70's Longines Automatic that needs a service and probably replacement parts. Has anyone any experience of dealing with Chris Heal or Michael Swift? Would one be more suitable than the other for that particular brand?

Have used Michael Swift before, he is great and a legend. I only sent him 1930/40s stuff...but he was quick and did a great job for me.

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.

I have used Michael Swift for servicing a 1940's chronograph and he was great to deal with.

I used Chris before. It was a long process, but he is good at what he does and his credentials are good. Did you check current feedback on tz-uk.

Thanks - I hadn't come across that site before and found it a very interesting read.

Michael Swift is very busy these days. From receiving a watch it will be 8 weeks before he gets around to servicing it.
He then sends an email with the cost and you have to post him a cheque. He does not accept online payments or credit cards. The service is good and he is nice to deal with, but be prepared to be without your pride and joy for a while!

could he not advise of the wait time and then book people in and ask them to send a week before he is ready? 8 weeks holding a watch doing nothing is ridiculous

For reference this is the TZ-UK feedback alluded to earlier and readers can draw their own conclusions:

Is there a reason why you only have a list of two? Rocco from Watchworcks is excellent but I know that he's turning away work at the moment (it seems increasingly common with good watchmakers). I've just had a couple back from Rob Horan, a Canadian living in France, and cannot praise him highly enough.

    Hi,

There's no particular reason why I choose the two - they were just two names that kept cropping up on searches. A couple of others cropped up but seemed to have mixed reviews.

I'm not in any particular hurry - the watch is of sentimental value so I just want to make sure that its done to a high standard.
