2012 Insignia / Focus / AStra H/Backs

    Hi all, currently looking at changing my car in the next few weeks. Prefer smaller cars / hatchbacks, once it has a boot for golf clubs or suit case. A few people (Not insignia owners) have said to stay away from the Insignia, that they give lots of niggling trouble and issues, can anyone here say otherwise?

    This or the Astra would be my first choices. The focus (New Shape) is third on my list, seems the obvious option and popular but I just can't decide if I like the new shape or not, like it in some colours but not gone on the seat upholstery! (if getting a focus it will be petrol as I don't generally do the very high mileage for diesel and with the dpf issue its off putting too), but would be probably getting the 1.7 Diesel Astra SRi or the diesel Insignia.

    Anyone any opinions, mainly on the 2012 Insignia, anyone have one or know much about them, do they give trouble?

    I don't have much experience with insignias personally but since no one else has replied yet I'll try give you a bit of info. I can't say I've heard of anyone having any major issues with insignias some of the early ones gave trouble with small niggly things (electronic handbrake etc.) but by 2012 most of the problems were well ironed out. I don't think there is any reason not to buy one from a reliability point of view once you get a well minded example you should have little issue. From what I can tell they are just as good as a Passat or Mondeo from a reliability point of view just comes down to which one do you prefer.

    You can't really go wrong with a 1.7 Astra either as that is a great engine the 1.3 wasn't bad either but lacked power compared to the 1.7. Gearboxes gave trouble in 1.3 Astra H models not sure about the 1.7 I think they did though so listen out for any noise coming from the gearbox in any of the gears if test driving one. Although I'd assume your looking at the later Astra J model if your thinking 2012 as the H finished production around 2009.
