Looking for some help ..... I spread 2 bags of urea per acre on April 13th and am wondering when I can safely cut for silage (Bales). Following the rules (2 units per day) I can't cut until May 28th. Would it be safe to cut a weak earlier given that I plan to wilt it for a day? Thanks...

Take some freshly cut grass to coop a few days before u hope to cut and they can test it for N. That will tell u if it's okay.

Thanks Milked Out... getting it tested is awkward (I'm working full-time) - Would anybody be able to offer an educated guess based on their own grass growth this year?

I had a field years ago that tested high for N went in a week later and it was still high, teagasc advisor said wilt it and bale it and it worked out fine.

Warm dry weather around cutting time will reduce potential for problems massively. We cut with N higher than I'd have liked last week but conditions were excellent. We also used an additive which is supposed to work well in high N situations. I'm a bit sceptical about it but we'll see.

Thanks for the tips. The weather for the rest of the week doesn't look great, so it'll probably be fine by the time it gets cut.
