    Hi folks,
Was getting some wiring done on my car at the weekend and electrician had to remove air filter. He says its filthy and should gave been replaced at last service. I had car serviced at 20 and 40k km. Filter looks to be the original came with car. I would need to root out receipt but should the Honda garage not gave replaced at the the last service? Kinda feel I should get it done ASAP now.
    Thanks
    Mick

It may look dirty and not be restricting airflow through it and they can get dirty looking very quickly - think of your hoover bag / filter

Filter was probably changed and they used OEM filters.

    Change it yourself

Any factors can order the filter for you.

They should have replaced it at last service.
Double check service schedule but normally air filter is changed every second service so in your case at 40k.

I'd go back to Honda and question why wasn't it replaced?

It's word against word for an air filter, and tbh either mechanic could be wrong.
I'd just change it DIY and move on.

Not looking for a fight just wondering when it should have been changed... I've heard a few scary stories recently about main dealer garages and services...

Needs to be changed when it starts restricting airflow too much

What you really need is a new filter and fit a restriction gauge kinda like this :

    Reasons :

Some filters can work better when they look a tiny bit dirty

Sometimes a filter can look dirty and be grand

Sometimes they can look clean and be a bit blocked up

Short version : Buy a new filter and a gauge kit

Then you won't have to guess any more :)

Just a thought but was it definately the engine air filter and not the cabin filter?

I would rather a mechanics opinion on it tbh :P

Filters can get dirty quick, just go into the honda garage and buy one in the spares dept and fit it within 30 seconds if your worried.

It's not due to be changed until 60,000km.

i have a 2.2 idtec 12 reg and it costs 20 euro for one from the Honda garage so like others said, replace it and be done. I read on some forums that an aftermarket filter gave some funny vibrations and they ended up changing to an official honda filter.... It was on the 8th gen of the civic
