As the title says. I recently bought a new charger for our iPhones. But although the cigarette lighter still heats up. The charger will not charge the any of the phones?
I have never used one before. So I am curious what it could be? Are there limitations to charging or could the device be faulty?

Does your car have a 12v socket as well as a cigarette socket?
    What car?

It only has the cigarette socket. Renault Clio year 2003.

Is there an LED light on the charger?

Have you tried a different cable? Find they don't last well in the car.

Try phone charger in a different car.
You may just have bought a crap charger.

Are you getting any errors on the iPhones? Charging not supported by this product etc? Apple stuff can be incredibly sensitive to car chargers. I found the little usb one using the phones own cable to be the best solution giving almost 100% charging success.

I tried different cables. Apple ones. Tried driving with it plugged In to see if it trickled charged. No joy. The phones are showing nothing.
I will try it in another car. That will rule it out. If it's faulty or not.
Do all cigarette lighters generally work with external connections?

Compare the length of the cigar lighter against the plug on the charger. It maybe that your charger plug is not making contact with the centre connector in the socket. Saw this happen with a cheap fm modulator for sending audio from MP3 player to radio.
    Try it in another car.

That's a good idea. Op, if you can open up your adaptor have a look inside and see if there's a fuse that might be blown.

    +1

    There should be.

Try rotating the charger slowly in the lighter socket to see if gets power then.

Could be an issue with apple. I have a charger for my android phone, but it wont charge my ipad for example

Yeah, Apple wants users to have certified cables and their phones may reject spurious cables.

What charger is this exactly? Link?
