Range

Hi,

Growing up we had a Stanley "range" like the attached picture. We always just referred to it as a "range"

Today at work, I was chatting with a girl and I mentioned we had a "range" in our kitchen growing up and she looked at me as if I had 2 heads, she had never heard of a range before and even when I showed her a picture of it, she had never seen one in her life before.

She then asked me why was it called a "range" and I didnt know the answer.

Anyone know why it's called a "range" ?

btw OP Waterford Stanley still make a range that is almost identical.

Its actually a Stanley 8 and mine is alive and well with 30yrs of daily use, hard to be without one after so many years, we did remove it some years ago but soon put it back when the winter power cuts came along, hot water on tap, oven and hob, heat golore, and not a single electrical watt required, who wants a stove!
