Virtual Reality Chat Rooms

Just want to state that I feel like an uber dork writing this post but none the less.

After receive a free virtual reality headset I played around with it a good bit but really got bored of most of the games except one that I go back to everyday AltspaceVR.

What is this program you ask? It's a virtual reality chat room. Essentially you enter this VR world and can walk up to and talk with people from all over the world. Think second life except way worse graphics. The program works by having audio only coming from people who are in close proximity. It's available to use on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Gear VR

Something strange happens when you are in virtual reality. You see people as robot avatars and even though the graphic are crude you really feel like you have been in a place talking to people, it's hard to explain but you brain perceives it very differently to just talking to a screen. You meet lots of different people but you also meet a lot of regulars on every night. It really transcends things like skype and other group chat programs.

Something even stranger has started happening in there too. In the days of yahoo chat, world of warcraft or second life, anonymity plays a big part but in Altspace people are really open about who they and often give out personal details and contact info such as email address and phone number. If you are in a group you can even set up your own room and people go in there and put up pictures of themselves on the shared screen.

What I find even more interesting is the amount of attention women get when they are in VR, I have chatted to a lot of girl and again sometime we swap pictures. A lot of them tend not to be the most attractive and probably wouldn't get too many people chatting them up in real life, but in Altspace they are suddenly beautiful and participle in heavy flirting. I have found myself very attracted to some girls even when I see them and find they are not as beautiful in real life as I imagined. As sad as this sound I have had some very intimate moment with some girl just the two of us looking into each other's eyes.

This I feel is only the beginning. Social VR is here to stay and this is backed up by Facebook's latest announcement of a virtual reality integration.

I can also see plenty of other used for this kind of technology such as virtual classrooms and meetings. I pretty sure in 5 years this is going to be seriously mainstream.

For anyone curious and with any of the above devices I would really recommend visiting AltspaceVR. As long as you're not acting the maggot you will meet plenty of really nice people in there.

    It sounds like this

"The Game" is the 106th episode of the television series Star Trek: The Next Generation. The sixth episode of the fifth season.

Riker returns from a vacation on Risa with a game that he is eager to share with the crew. Unfortunately, the game is psychologically addictive (making the crew suffer from Virtual Reality Addiction), and it quickly turns virtually every member of the Enterprise's crew into a mind-controlled pawn of the Ktarians, who are using the devices to gain control of Starfleet. After Data (who, as an android, is unaffected by the game) inexplicably is "incapacitated", only visiting Starfleet Academy cadet Wesley Crusher and young engineering ensign Robin Lefler stand in the way of the insidious scheme."

The army might use it as a training tool to heighten the speed troops take cover or duck. Want to be careful though, or the recruits would left with a terrible fear of german speaking midgets.

VR porn is out too, it's a 180 degree stereo recording, you can look around but not forward and back.
