Hi Guys, just a query. Have an app booked for my doctor next week so am not looking for medical advice per se. Is it worthwhile going the whole hogg and get a full medical including ecg before I start my training schedule for DCM thus year.

The reason I'm asking is I'd a bad viral dose over the last 6 weeks. Not fully recovered yet but trying to get miles in and am finding it's taking a lot more effort to get the distances I was comfortably before the dose.

I attended the doc and kdoc during this spell out and both said it's viral and will take a little time to clear completely. Was at a gaa match with my club at the weekend and club physio told me I'd to stop running completely until I get a full checkup and ecg before I attempt to run again. Said I'm putting too much stress on myself trying to run at minute

Both doc and kdoc never mentioned ecg but the physio kinda gave me a bit of a fright. I should probably get a full check done I think. Am I over thinking this

A medical professional who has actually examined you and your history and presumably observed you over a period of time has advised you on a simple course of action to ensure your health before you stress it further. What more do you imagine you need to know?

I think for peace of mind you should get a full checkup. It will put your mind at ease.

Best of luck with your recovery and training fatherted. Do you have any idea of your resting heart rate? Whatever course of action you decide on, knowing your resting heart rate (RHR) would be a useful tool. An elevated heartrate (more than seven beats above normal first thing in the morning) indicates that you are tired/not recovered fully from previous exertion/coming down with something or any combination of these.
