Hi all, We are getting married in Clonmel and hoping to have our reception venue less than an hour away from Waterford and Clonmel. We really like the style and feel of old stone walls and beams like at the carriage rooms in down. Would anyone know of any venue within an hours drive or less similar to this in any direction? Thanks in advance for any help xx

Have you looked at Ballykisteen? My cousin had her wedding there and it was lovely but it's not really 'old worldly'

Kilshane house is absolutely stunning but it all depends on your budget, it doesn't go cheap!!

Personally I wouldn't recommend Ballykisteen, I have been to weddings there and you get kicked out of the ballroom after the meal so they can set up for dancing. The last wedding they took about 2 hours to set up and some people never came back into the ballroom...Hotel Minella in Clonmel is much nicer, or as mentioned Kilshane. Aherlow house is stunning too and maybe as its under new management could be worth considering, it would have the old world charm you described.

Was just going to post this! Was at a wedding there last year and couldn't fault it. Great food, well organised, lovely grounds. Only down side is it's a bit on the small side and parking is a bit limited.

I too, would avoid Ballykisteen, even though the food is good there too.

Great suggestion, it's a lovely place for a smallish wedding.

+1 for Raheen house! Was at a lovely wedding there. Food was lovely, there's a lovely snug bar in behind one of the reception rooms and nice little nooks and crannies to the place. The house itself has a lovely charm about it to a less grand extent of some of the other bigger budget ones.

The grounds do let it down slightly, they're well kept but quite small, wouldn't be much photo ops there.

That's such a pity everything went really smoothly at the wedding I went to!

How about Waterford Castle- plenty old stone walls there! I was at a wedding there once, it was lovely, couldn't fault the venue, staff or food, and the island venue made it seem very idyllic. There's not s huge amount of rooms in the hotel itself but there are a good few lodges on the island where family groups or a few friends could stay together. The lodges are good standard too

How about Castle Gurteen de la Poer near Kilsheelan or Killaghy Castle, Mullinahone.

Marlyn Manson married Dita vonTeese in Castle de Poer some years ago. Unfortunately the marriage didn't last, but the castle looks great.

Raheen House has gardens all the way around it so theres lots of areas for photo ops there, it is a bit smaller than average but a very nice old house.

Dundrum House is real old style country house probably not as much in the likes of gardens as Raheen House tho.
