This seems to be the Bible of pre school manuals according to anyone I know working in that area:

Hi there! Preschool manuals give you good ideas for activities to provide but your best bet is observing your children and seeing what they are interested in and starting from there! There are some tip sheets, self evaluation tools and videos online at aistearsiolta.ie, you should have a look there before spending a lot of money on a manual. The practice guide helps you develop an emergent curriculum based on the interests of the children in your group, when you start with their interests, they are already motivated to learn. They will have a high level of involvement when the play materials and experiences you provide build on these interests! Planning becomes so much more fun when done like this, instead of following a prescribed curriculum like those manuals.
