"Officers said the video had been shared online and “caused offence and hurt to many people in our community”

This is a bit mental no? I watched the video, and my first reaction was to have a bit of a giggle, not to be offended. Pugs don't exactly have the best range of motion to be giving Nazi salutes. :pac:

The guy in the video was a bit of a dumbass, no doubt, but to arrest him for a stupid prank is setting a dangerous precedent in my opinion.

I thought this happened years ago?

Quite a bit of this has been going on of late in the UK. People being arrested off the back of tweets and the like. It's entering the realm of thought-crime. The guy in the video isn't funny and is probably in poor taste, but are police seriously trying to make the case he's inciting racial hatred? Can we now get arrested for jokes we say in the pub that we probably shouldn't?

    Pretty ruff.

I bet he did Nazi see that coming

Heil be more careful in future.

Look at the state of his ears!

    Poor dog.

heres a link with more detail
    http://www.kvue.com/news/man-arrested-after-training-dog-to-do-nazi-salute-in-video/184649080

Seems like a non story to me and would have to wonder why it has made it to the media.
Surely just saying your dog is a nazi is not a hate crime. The arresting him and keeping him over night seems heavy handed as well by the police.

I have contacted the garda, I feel hurt by your poor attempts at humour and so will be now referring to this as a hate crime incident.

The world has gone to the dogs but at least they collared their Dog ...or was it man!

If he was using his pug to glorify Nazism - and yes that sounds just weird! - they might have a point. But he actually says it's "the least cute thing he could think of", but evidently they don't do irony. The whole thing is just a lame joke, he'll now get a terrific Streisand effect and become a minor and fleeting youtube celeb.

    Are you Jewish ?

If not, maybe that's why you weren't offended.

It's a bit arrogant to assume anything about others.

The only crime there is that its a Sh1t video. Dogs so fat it can't lift its paw a inch of the ground!

What about the woman that called her cat "Kitler" as it looked like Hitler? Will she be arrested too?

Agree that the UK is turning into a modern version of the DDR with the mass surveillance.

It was good thinking using a dog though. If you sat a cat in front of videos of Hitler they'd be trying to launch their own national totalitarian regime before the month was out.

Would totally have been worth the risk if it had been the cat who looks like Hitler though.

How does referring to a dog as a nazi hurt a Jewish person?

My Lucky stole tinfoil that spare ribs were cooked in out of the bin this evening and let me tell you, you'd be safer taking on the Third Reich than getting it back off her. :(

What kind of precious fuckhead gets offended at a pooch that's been trained to lift its leg to the command 'Heil Hitler'?

What kind of state is it that considers this 'grievous' offence a matter for the law?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,252 ✭✭✭FTA69

    I'm füherious about this anyway.

Any Jewish person is entitled to feel offended by it. That doesn't mean the person who made the joke should go to prison or get a criminal record. Just means they're probably a bit of a wanker. Might not be though, people can get offended very easily these days.

Not that you're implying he should go to prison, but ultimately there are a sizeable amount of people that feel he should.

How exactly is it offensive to Jews (or any other people that suffered because of Hitler)?

The same state that would jail someone for flying an English flag in England and a state, that if it leaves the EU, would rip up every human rights law.

I think when someone read 1984, they thought it was a manual..

I don't think it's offensive. But you can get offended by anything you want to. I could get offended by your post if I wanted to. It's my problem though if I did, not yours. Thicker skin is needed and not censorship.

I dunno how many dogs Ive had that would extend their paw when prompted. A lot better than a bockety pug! One just does it spontaneously when he sees me. Getting worried myself now!!

I have both liathroidi and I'm not into women weeing on me so I think the world is safe from me. But am I safe from PC?

The Jews do have a sense of humour.

Indeed, Israelis aren't afraid to engage with gallows humour with regard to the Shoah. Some of their jokes would likely have you in the dock if you tweeted them in the UK.

Only when its at someone else's expense. Joke about Jews and you are antisemitic.

Criticism of Israeli state policy is antisemitism

    Etc etc.

Ever seen the Larry David bit in Curb where the Holocaust survivor and a contestant from the TV show Survivor start arguing?

I bet it wasn't a Jewish person or any relative of a survivor/victim of the the Third Reich. Probably some professionally offended special snowflake.

I don't know what's more silly, the man training the dog to do it or the man being punished for it.

Also, if you're offended by an animal doing an impression of a Nazi, you really shouldn't leave your house.

Google "named person Scotland" to see how police state they have gone.

I am 99% sure they wanted to make talking about comiting a crime jailable..

As a joke you could say "I would rob them" and it could have got you done.

    Quietly dropped though..

Yes. No evidence that Jewish groups got offended. The police got offended.

John Cleese must be sh1tting himself

A belief in gender identity involves a level of faith as there is nothing tangible to prove its existence which, as something divorced from the physical body, is similar to the idea of a soul. - Colette Colfer

This is pretty ridiculous. Anti semitism is an issue but this isn't that. This is one idiot thinking what his pug does is hilorious.

I wouldn't identify as Jewish but my mother who is devoutly Jewish had a slight chuckle and said some of the older people might find it in bad taste.

I'm surprised he was arrested, sure the UK will be adopting Jew hatred as a matter of policy in a few years when the old Sharia state kicks in ..

I remember a few years back some "Artist" in Paris got drunk and was saying to women in a restaurant "I love Hitler"
he was arrested and fined - in fact he almost got jail.
It was a joke, the women were laughing at him - at how pathetic he was, they were in no way threatened.

Don't get me wrong, if he had been baying on about Nazis/Hitler and was aggressive and they felt threatened - fair enough, he deserved
    to be arrested.

It's literally going to be an arrestable offence to call someone a dickhead soon.

Oh FFS, poor Jews get offended by just about everything according to people like you.

What's your opinion of Mel Brooks' song/video "To Be or Not To Be"?

And what's this obsession with taking offence?

As Stephen Fry succinctly put it:

    Randomer: "I'm offended by that"

    Fry: "So fucking what?"
