I read recently bout some TOWIE reality star cheating at Virgin London Marathon. Is this type of thing a problem in Ireland as well? Apparently Belfast had some problems last weekend. Have people see this and what is their opinion?

Can't understand this one - surely you are only fooling yourself ? I know it's been known to happen but why on earth would anyone bother ?

think its implied she skipped a bit of the course her times dont match up and there is a load missing in the middle

She actually said she has a lack of direction problem:D:rolleyes:

really she must be blind as well to miss the hundreds of other people running the right course as well as spectators markings barriers and well pretty much EVERYTHING that indicates this is a marathon course

Wasn't a well known Irish star of media forced to deny claims she cheated by catching a bus. She just ran really fast and stuff.

Didn't an Irish model/daughter of a crooner cheat in a "marathon" a few years ago. Crossed the line as fresh as a daisy.
The following year there was a chip mat at the halfway point...

I do the women's mini marathon each year and the amount of people who duck under the tape when they get onto the Stillorgan road, cutting a good 1.5km off their course!

Possibly an interesting study to be done on how unreal this reality star's sense of reality was/is. At the very least an opinion piece in the Sindo :)

It's not a problem unless they take a prize that they didn't earn.

99.8% of most marathon fields are running for personal achievement/charity and it doesn't matter a whit to them what times anyone else runs.

His/her mistake was not realising how seriously some other people take their unreal claims.

She wasn't even the reality start though was she? The sister of a reality star or some crap. She's on the cover of OK now though, so objective achieved I guess.

How do you cheat in a real marathon (42,195 m) and get away with it anyway?Doesn't your chip check in with electronic sensors on the road every 5KM or so?

Calling a 10k a "marathon" of any sort is the start of the delusion/photo-spread in the Sindo. #solightitwouldn'tstopagarminfenix3

Most marathons I have run have mats at 10k, 10 mile, half, 21 mile and finish.

That's how a lot of them get caught, including the one in question. She missed most of the markers in the second half.

The Brits need to learn from the Irish and deploy proper security at marathons. Never happens here...

Delighted that prick wasn't hanging around at the GFA start of London Marathon this year for the first time since I've been doing London.

Off topic but don't bring up that clown! He brought shame on this country, and possibly cost that man an Olympic gold medal.

Here is the link to the "Keith" incident for those who are interested. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056073038
Hopefully they have since learned the error of their ways and now pay for races that they enter.

I'm surprised that there have not been any people pulling a similar trick appearing in the race photos for London each year. The numbers never change from one year to the next so it would be simple to get into the start pens. Although, I did notice this year at the point before they hand out medals where previously they would have taken the chip back off your shoes (which they don't bother with anymore) there was a person keeping a tally of each person going through the barriers and checking that they had a chip on. Presumably they would then pull you out of the finishers area at that point if you didn't have a chip on for the right year, but again the chips were not especially obviously different from one year to the next.

Would be a risky move doing it though as they would know who was wearing the number the previous year and they would presumably get banned for life if nothing else.

the girl who cheated is the sister of one of the TOWIE people, its been reported that a fellow runner has reported her to officials for ducking under a barrier and her results have been pulled from the website.

She ran for charity and apparently ran under a 5 minute mile for the last 20 km... lolz! she a chubby white girl who out paced even some of the Kenyans and Ethiopians... she might want to have a look at explaining herself to the people who gave her money to run.

I doubt she cares about her charity. She's famous now too because of it.

I've seen lads hop off the backs of bikes and (re?)join the race in the phoenix park during DCM before and never fully realised what was going on until after. I also saw a dude come over a garden wall in Donnybrook during DCM last year and chase the 3 hour pacers up the road in a pair of converse and not a hair out of place.

The mind boggles but maybe I'm just jealous !

i doubt that, ive never run a marathon, training for my first half this year but ive done plenty of 5km and have my second this weekend (the bayrun gulp!!)
i love seeing my medals and finisher shirts stuck on my wall of glory and knowing how hard ive worked for them, i think if i had a shirt or number or medal that i know i didnt earn it would taint the whole thing, why lie, what do you gain. the people that knwo you are bound to know youre a liar so whats ti worth to you?

i dont ever see anyone being jealous or someone cheating... my finisher photos are normally horrific because i've worked so hard i would defo not be jealous of the model types who cross the line looking fab if theyve not done the work

Is that what passes for famous nowadays?

I'm just glad I don't know any of these people, obviously age (mine) has something to do with that.

    Oh, and what's TOWIE?

Lucky people who haven't been violated by TOWIE, or The only way is Essex, to give it's full title. A fly on the wall, documentary, reality tv show following the young ones in Essex. Yes, it's as bad as it sounds!

Let me guess, it's based in Basildon? Also known as Bas Vegas. An old employer sent me to that sh1thole for 3 weeks. Never forgave them.

The words/phrases "documentary" and "reality TV" really shouldn't be used in the same sentence, unless the sentence has a NOT in it. They are not interchangeable.

whats strange to me is that she claims she had a panic attack approached a steward to tell them she went the wrong way and they told her to keep going surely you would just tell them you have had such a debilitating medical emergency that you are so disorientated that you cant remember which way you are going, that you are handed a medal and take it without asking for medical attention.

yeah a panic/anxiety attack sure you did love, ive seen people have those, getting a medal is the least of their concerns...
breathing and not passing out is...
