Friends in Cork

Hello everyone, and thanks for reading.

I'm 31 years of age and I am wondering if there are any social groups predominately in the Cork area with the aim of forming friends? I have searched on-line but I cannot seem to find any, or if there are such groups, they seem outdated or defunct. I would like to meet more like minded individuals like myself.

Just recently, I ventured into Chambers (Bar), with the possibility of making new acquaintances but this is proving somewhat difficult...but it's early days. I have used apps etc. but these seemed to be focused, in my experience, on one thing. The thing is: without sounding arrogant (sounding arrogant), I get a lot of messages on such apps but when I mention the possibility of meeting up for a drink or coffee: the conversation fizzles out. Dates are somewhat similar.
So, is there any other options or avenues that are available to meet like minded people in Cork?

I hope this post doesn't come across as naïve or stupid, but I felt like posting it .
    Muchas gracias for reading.

    Hey Mike222,

I know what you mean. I moved to Cork for work over a year ago and one thing I missed was the social scene that was in Dublin (ie. The running club) that is missing from Cork. Even just after I moved to Cork the only gay bar I knew of closed.

One option is to take a look at meetups.com, loads of meetup groups for all interests up there. I think I've seen an Cork LGBT group too. I even remember a outdoor club on Facebook called "Republic of Outdoors" but doesn't look like it's been active since 2015.

Maybe it's time for a new LGBT social group in Cork?

Had a somewhat similar experience in Galway Mike last year (I'm 33). A few of us formed a group on Meetup.com. Met some very nice people (group is still going) and would recommend trying something similar!

    Hi,

Yes, a lot of those sites seemed to have fizzled out unfortunately. There doesn't seem to be much activity in the meetup site either from what I can see.

A club, like you mention, such as running or swimming would even be great.
    Thanks for replying.

    Try this OP: http://www.meetup.com/Corkgaydining/

They had some sort of drinks thing last month, so they must be pretty active.

Kind of sad that there seems to be so little in Cork considering that there's about 400,000 people living within 10 miles of the city centre - but hopefully that's something of use to you OP.

There was a bit of a running group going at one stage but like you noticed if fizzled out. Know the guy who started it off & he's back doing a bit of running again so if I bump into him will see if he's any plans to revive it.

There's a lot of events on this week

    http://www.facebook.com/CorkLgbtAwarenessWeek/

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.
