30K-ish Budget, no ideas

I'm completely stumped as to what to upgrade my current MK5 Golf TSI too, I've got a budget of about 30k and that's including trading in my own Golf.

    I want something with a bit of power 180 BHP + .
Ideally I'd like to buy new, maybe a year old.
I like the hatch styling but the Golf GTI/ Leon Cupra is a little outside my budget, but I'm struggling to find any engine with decent power under 30K.
I much prefer petrol, but could consider Diesel, but I dont do the miles to justify it really.

    Please shoot me some ideas!

another little car getting rave reviews is the Fiesta ST... think it's a 197hp in small car but on the boards thread they absolutely love it. about 22-25k i think new

Fiesta ST is 180bhp but 197bhp on overboost afaik. Smaller than the GTi but still a cracking car and well within your budget OP.

Cheers for the heads up on the fiesta, on 1st impressions it's a bit small for me coming from a golf but I'll look into it further.

Went looking at megane gt and astras today, nothing took my fancy. I did see a tasty lexis, I think it was a 2014 200

That Golf is a clinker, but my God that upholstery is stomach churning. Really brings the car down imho (although I appreciate it might be a retro, original GTI-type deal).

I actually really like the upholstery, would strongly consider that car if it wasn't white

No Xenons or climate control either. I've seen it in the flesh and it's just...not right IMO. OP with that kind of money you could easily get a good spec GTI up north:

This is a nice one (ok you need to take into account VRT, but still :D).

I've bought from these guys before (their BMW branch) and would highly recommend them. They even arrange trade ins for southern cars.

Was keeping an eye on 30k golf gti's myself. The vast majority are white and have that upholstery. I'd prefer leather myself but it's not a deal breaker. White however would be, no idea why everyone bought one in that colour.

The tartan seat trim is standard traditional on the GTi.

Skoda Octavia vRS or what about Ford Focus ST2

A little over budget but maybe you could get a nearly new one or a year old one.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Doesn't stop it being wil' looking.;)

Black leather would really finish off that car. Even the upholstery from the Golf Highline would be nicer.

The 142 GTI linked above would be a poor choice imo. Crap spec on it, just before VW pulled the finger out and spec'd them properly. No xenons, no climate and terrible 17" wheels. There's other several decent spec'd ones on Carzone to choose from.

The tartan upholstery doesn't photograph well. It does look much better in person. Leather is a 2k option on them new - hence rare.

Golf/Octavia in different cloths. If you can live with the dash design, you should be more than happy.

Used to have one, found it a great all rounder. Good poke, drives really well, good economy, reliable, comfy (used do 240km a day without any aches), nice place to sit and decent standard spec. I'm kind of sorry I didn't buy another one when the time came to change it.

I put a deposit down on a lovely black leon fr 180bhp yesterday. Delighted!

Well wear with, those new Leon's are lovely looking cars in fairness. Think the black will look well too. White cars are very outdated now imo, think they look tacky tbh.
