2005 e60 rear lower wishbone bushing

    My car had started squeaking the last couple of days(if i push on the back bumper it can be clearly heard),car was in for NCT so i left it into mechanic to have a look to disgnose.He said the bottom rear wishbone bushes are the culprit.He said he greased them up and it passed the nct?? But they will need to be replaced. This is something id like to challenge myself. So just wondering what level if expertise is needed?

    This is one of those jobs that's just better left to a garage, with a proper bearing and bush kit its a trivial enough job but without it could be hours of pain and suffering.

    A kit like this is ideal but it would cost multiples of getting a garage to do the bush for a decent kit.

    Yeah i was thinking if i bought the kit its not something i would use very often so prob isnt worth it

    Just popped into boards to check the late late thread and up popped this post. I have the exact same prob (squeaking) on my e61 msport touring, rear suspension. Driving me spare at the moment. I feel your pain!

    Very common issue on this car. Bmw actually call the bushing a ball joint. We sell a power of them. They're about 60 or 70 quid each. Not a job for diy without the right tool.

    The bush can be pushed out/in with threaded bar, probably m10 but m12 if it fits. You will need metal spacers, just grab some large plumbing fittings/pipe or even some large sockets. This will allow you push on the outer shell of the bushing.

    Freeze the new bush before installing and make sure you only push on the outer race. Use the threaded bar and spacers again.



    If your stuck another way to get the old one out, as they are probably shot, use a hole saw to remove the inner rubber. Then with a hacksaw cut a slot in the outer shell it will pop out.

    Must get her booked in so... Heard it was a common issue alright. Or the upper trailing link, I'm told.

    Yeah seen ed China doing something similar on wheeler dealers,feel like its something i could do with enough time. He didnt exactly which one was gone but im assuming its the outer most one (nearest the wheel) must jack it up tomorrow and have a good look, will it be very noticeable to spot?

    What do you mean by freeze the new bushing?

    Hard to tell which bushing is gone but this is the only one i can see that someone has sprayed lubricant onto so im guessing its this one.
    Has anyone tried powerflex bushes to replace these?
