Not long now, I will post teamer invites tomorrow. I have not played the course but I hear good things.

Price for this one is €35 and we have the tee from 11.30. We have 36 slots booked but i think with he Irish Open on that weekend we may not need them all. As usual i will try for 3 balls.

If anyone knows the course well may they can suggest the LD and NDP, maybe a few lines on the course as well.

The course pictures on their website certainly look well. Always like playing a course for the first time.

We are just finishing up their app and flybys, I think the course looks great.

    Flybys Here

Nearest the pint MUST be the 9th.

Long drive probably the 17th ?

Have you played the course before ? What tees should we use?

I played it once its a a tough tough track (a lot of very heavy rough, very open to the elements and subject to high winds). I believe most member competition end up being Reductions only.

My moneys on the lowest winning score in recent times:eek:

Forward tees would be a good bet imo. I've only ever played it off the whites and it's tough off the whites. I think I only ever played to my handicap once off the whites.

If you're looking for a members advice, maybe send a PM to slave1. He used to be a member there

I may make a guest appearance at this one :D

Don't all rush to play with me!!

Unfortunately I don't think I will make this one. I am planning to play Dooks scratch cup on the following day and I don't fancy 2 long trips over 1 weekend.

Maybe the forecast will be sunshine for New Forest and a washout in Kerry and that will change my mind :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 747 ✭✭✭athlone99

unfortunately I wont be able to make this one as i'll be following the big boys around the K Club! Raging as its a nice track that I haven't played for 4 years!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,711 ✭✭✭spacecoyote

Our man tiger is a regular player out there as far as I remember. I know he's spoken about the place a couple of times when I've played with him in the past.

Have never played it before myself. Place looks good, hopefully the weather comes good for us

    Guys

I would imagine that there a good few of us that may be at the K Club that day. There is an option for 4 groups to go out between 8.15 and 9. I am take oe of them myself.

Or if there is enough consensus we could look to mving to the next saturday ?

Can't make this one, heading down to Dooks as well. Will probably be away the following weekend also.

You will get nobody going unless a solid decision is made.

    Put a poll up.

    Or make a call.

Most definitely has to be the 9th for nearest the pin!!

I've played it lots of times and am struggling to think of a long drive hole. Barnaboy and slave1 are members so I can ask them

I was a member in NF but left it because the course was setup way too hard, continual reductions only competition time and time again. I know guys that left it mid-year because it was too tough. It's a shame because it has great potential but over relies on distance to make it hard, the greens themselves are very quick in places and vast enough for variety of pins but it's hard playing par 3's over 200yards every round and par 4's where the average scoring is close to treble over.
Anyhow, meant to just reply to the above, bang on!

If you want to enjoy yourselves folks then go for the yellow tees, I played to my handicap just the once off the whites in a casual round in over a year playing there regularly, pulled in 40+ points off the yellows a good few times, big difference.
Enjoy the day, it's a great location and some lovely holes.
1 straightforward, miss left or short of the green, not right (bunkers) or long (oob)
2 don't miss left (oob), better off long
3 not long, green very fast
4 don't worry about beating your drive, it's 3 to the green for most, if you are long then LHS off the tee for best entrance to green
5 probably the easiest hole on the course, par 5, drive RHS but be careful as reeded/wet area not a water hazard, then 9 iron then wedges to green, long hitters go RHS then slight draw to green, large tree protects entry from LHS
6 tough par 5, accurate tee shot then ample lay up room
7 nice par r, decent tee shot and wood should get most near the green, drain 30 yards in front of green
8 par 4, try slightly left of fairway, big green, fast from back to front
9 lovely par 3, no advice needed, your tee shot should make a nice reverb in this fully walled hole
10, long par 4, don't go too far left off the tee, long approach shots with bunkers front and back, be happy with a 3 shot to green strategy
11 elevated par 3, I liked it as full 3wood for me, drain left so better to miss short or RHS
12 whore of a hole, almost perfect drive won't give you a shot in, drive to leave a gap between large tree and forest area on RHS, loads of folk just poke their second across the diagonal drain and play 3 on, wise move
13 stay left of large tree and mid iron across large pond to green that's fast back to front, go long or right of green and very tough to pitch close to flag
14 highly elevated tee to par 4, drive as left as you can, approach is over another reeded area that is not a hazard, approaches leaked right doomed to a drain
15 blind for the first 2 shots par 5, loads of room for your second, try and keep it left for best entry to green, if the flag is on the right then very long tricky putt ahead
16 long par 3, very fast green, you're shagged if pin on left as huge dip in green, best just short as green sloped back to front, not one for closest to the pin!
17 open the shoulders time, could be your last chance of glory, large circle area ahead of you is an old pond that dried up, long hitters may carry this, others should go to the left, long guys may reach in two but a fade likely required, plenty of room for the rest of us with our second, better left, fast green with big break
18 nice accurate tee shot, dead straight to avoid bunkers LHS and OOB RHS, long hitters can go RHS of fairway for good run off the tee, tough green to hold being elevated and well bunkered

Sorry about some grammar and lack if capitals, on the iPad, wish I'd seen the thread when the PC was on...

Yes indeed space i have played new forest twice and love the place, to be fair to paulos he did raise the issue of the clash with irish open last year when dates where first listed. I reckon at this stage it is probably best to stick to the original date althought i will be attending either that week or week after but can not make the 14th as i can not risk missing the eurovision:D.
I agree with slave/rikand some of the par 3 can be a bit long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭Ben1977

I agree with Tiger, we shouldn't move it at this late stage. Others have probably organised to take off work or made arrangements to try and make it on the the 21st.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,835 ✭✭✭Golfgraffix

    Teamer invites just went out.

We had checked before about moving the dates but at the time there were no times available, that is still the situation. So we are out on the 21st.

The tee is boooked from 11.30 in 10 minute slots. We can go out in 3 balls.

For those thinking of going to the Irish Open in the afternoon we have also held 2 slots at 8.20 and 8.30.

You cant suit everybody all the time.

I'm going to miss the next two events after new forest as I'm going to be tied up with Barton Shield, Senior cup and Junior cup 3 weekends in a row either side of those events and I'm burning all my June/July brownie points on those 3 weekends ;)

The dates are what they are :)

This is my first outing this year, really looking forward to it lads. After not playing for nearly 6 months I came back with a massive hook in my drive so hopefully I can sort that out in the next 2 weeks

I have heard great things about this course, but I missed this scratch cup last year at Dooks.

And it would be another very long trip (6 hours drivingl)for me to cover both events. Enjoy the day.

Looking Forward to it .. course look great in the photos . Always a challenge playing a new course for the first time !

Played there last year in the Irish mid am, not overly long but is a tough golf course off the tee.
Some lovely holes, and is usually in good nick too.

Just been weighing this up. Much and all as I would love to go, I think I will have to firmly decline :(

I think I'd have to be leaving at 7am...and that's to early for me at the best of times :D Out the night before and again the Saturday night makes it a hell of a long weekend so I think I'll stay in bed for another few hours and tip along to the K-Club about half 10 or so.

    Enjoy it folks.

Can you stick me down for one of the early slots then J.

Have something that's come up that evening so early start would be great (even if it means getting up at the crack of dawn :( )

Apoligies for declining so late J.
I was holding out as the date was clashing with Pierce Purcell Practice but it was confirmed today so I have to miss New Forest.

See you at the next one.

We have one of our major competitions in the club next weekend. I thought it was on Sunday but as far as I know it's on Saturday so I reckon I'm a non runner for this. I was really looking forward to playing the course as well. Will let you know J if plans change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,577 ✭✭✭dak

    Hi Macker1

Course was in great nick . Pro said greens will be even better next week . Some of the rough is a a bit long and can be hard to see your ball sometimes but then we shouldn't be there ...staying on the fairway and its great . Loved the 13th over water and the very short 9th par 3

    Regards

    Dak

Hey J, if there are any early spots at 8.20/8.30 left can i get one, I have to head to the states next week for work at short notice and would rather not lose the whole day to golf on Saturday
