Easyjet Trip Report

This is becoming my new way to waste time at airports. I found myself back in Gatwick again, this time heading on Easyjet to Paris CDG.
Once again EZY offer various baggage options, but your cabin baggage is based on size and not weight, so I stuck to their basic 20kgs allowance, bank holiday weekend so not the cheapest fare and none of the Ryanair business extras.
I was amazed at the size of the Easyjet North Terminal check in area and it's all automated, my bag weighed 20.4 kgs and was accepted without any issues. Asked a staff member about tolerance and she said it was 1kg, anything above that and the machine would automatically ask for 10 per kg.
Lots of armed police with sniffer dogs wandering around.
Next to the security area, it was massive and extremely well organised, 8 spaces at each X-ray machine so people could simultaneously place items in baskets, they had metal detectors and body scanning machines at each station, at the other end they had about 10 desks so people to rearrange their bags, the place was packed but the process only took about 10 minutes. It certainly was the most efficient security checking area that I have seen.
Duty free shopping area and restaurant area is huge, but the walk to some boarding gates is up to 15 mins.
As soon as we got to the boarding gate, EZY were offering to check in cabin baggage for free due to a full flight and we were delayed 20 mins due to the inbound aircraft.
I really don't know the age of the aircraft but it looked old, the legroom was a lot less than my previous flight on Ryanair, but there was plenty of overhead baggage space. I really can't blame EZY for the screaming kid 5 rows behind me and his mother who was issuing orders from the other side of the aisle in a loud high pitch voice, I was so happy that I had ear plugs and not a hangover. (Note the kid was screaming to get his way)
Flight was easy, 40 mins really isn't enough time for them to make too many announcements. (And no wifi but this was an old aircraft) Long taxi in CDG, easy immigration baggage and customs.
My wife arrived 40 minutes before me on Cityjet from Dublin, but she spend an hour getting through immigration due to a computer failure.

Based on these two flights, I preferred Ryanair

One area I feel easyJet could improve in is cabin appearance, some of ther craft are 12/13 years in service now (not that there is anything wrong with aircraft of this age) but in comparison to competitors such as Ryanair, Norwegian, BA, they could really invest in a cabin upgrade for some of the older aircraft, they are very inconsistent compared to the new A320s comming online.
EasyJet can be a pain with announcements, it depends on the crew(senior) on the day

I had my first Easyjet experience at the start of the year.

Compared to Ryanair, it was largely much of a muchness. I was a bit worried about the 1 cabin bag only rule for EZY, but as it was an outstation I flew from, it was not enforced.

The fare was cheap and the times suited so it was a winner.

Many announcements for sure, but lots of updates from the flight deck too.

One thing that swayed it for me was the lack of a yellow cabin and I slightly prefer the A320 from a pax point of view, certainly for the 3 hour flight I was on.

Would use them again alright. Pic below from my flight.

found the leg room tighter then any airline i have flown on when I used to use them. Staff always great though and the first time I used them my printer had a meltdown at home and before the days of apps was ****ting it that they would be charging me £60 for a piece of paper and 2 mins of their staff members time but they could not have been nicer...

I find the LGW security process the best of any airport I've been at. Always works really well and I like the space you have to put your stuff back together again after the screening. Other airports take note.

The worst? CDG Terminal 1. What a KIP!

recent flight to liverpool and back from belfast international

flight full on way out no problems

return flight get told cabin baggage has to go in hold, so take laptop bits an pieces out of bag and carry to plane , get on and there's plenty of room, my half full shoulder bag would have fit under the sat no problem. plenty of space in overhead lockers.

had to wait 20 mins to get my bag out then at the baggage reclaim.

honestly would prefer to fly ryanair on previous recent experience (never thought id say that )

apparently easyjet don't guarantee you been able to take hand luggage on board

They had a two tier hand luggage policy in place but as far as I know that changed in March this year so all carry on is treated the same so like most airlines it's not guranteed to go in the cabin with you.

In regards to WiFi, as far as I know, Norwegian are the only airline in Europe who offer WiFi on short haul.

Neither do Ryanair, or any airline for that matter, the Ryanair policy is to allow Theo first 90 passengers in the que for boarding to take on their hand luggage, the remaining 90 passengers will have their bags places in the hold, this is done as there is physically not the space to fit all the hand luggage of every passenger onboard and this also speeds up the boarding process

I find EasyJet's seating a lot more comfortable than Ryanair's. I'm quite tall though, so Ryanair are probably the worst in that regard.
