With the new season underway Im looking for a handset to take with me when out at sea. Ive already lost a galaxy note and an iphone to (salt)water damage and I want to reduce casualties this year.

Ive been looking at phones along the lines of the ruggear rg100.

    http://www.komplett.ie/ruggear-rg100-water-en-schokbestendige-telefoon/80042369/details.aspx

It will eventually come down to preference but as I regularly take and make calls while in an open boat in all weather I will invariably choose a non smart phone.

Are any of you guys using something similar. Id love to hear some feedback if you are.

You can get various IP8X cases for phones that will let you go diving with them.

Mostly you'll need something that's both waterproof and tethered to you.

My Samsung Galaxy S4 is IP67 rated. I'm sure the others are too. Maybe something like that in a waterproof case?

The link you posted reminded me of this one which seems just as good at half the price.

Dual sim also which can be handy if you're in areas not covered by your current network.

Aquapac are very good. Mountain Rescue, SARDA and I think the Coastguard use them for their VHF radios, so they must be good.

Saw one of those before. I'll have a gander in a few Aldiss this afternoon.

I use a Moto G 3rd Gen rated waterproof, but the one I really depend on while afloat and for several years is The Samsung B2710 Solid Immerse. There's also B2100 which has no gps but I'd use it if I got one as the gps is clunky. Both have phenomenal battery life, properly waterproof, have a brilliant torch and are tough as nails. They also have a solid lanyard attachment and I carry mine around my neck.

You'll get them on eBay if you're persistent.
