Black - a hobby, not a colour!

I picked up my GTi about six months ago. I adore the car and think it looks beautiful in Deep Black Pearl Metallic, but f*ck me is it difficult to maintain!

It gets washed every week (two bucket method) and polished and waxed with a good layer of AG HD every 5/6 weeks and yet it constantly looks filthy. In the wet weather it shows up all the crap a wet road has to offer, in the dry it quickly gets covered in a layer of dust. Scratches, swirls and the most minor imperfections are shown up so easily. I'm getting ready to wash it again this morning now that the rain has stopped, no doubt it'll be filthy by evening time.

I love how the car looks in black, but I think my next car will be silver!

Anyone else enjoying the challenges of a black car?

Black is probably the mst rewarding colour but can't have the pleasure without the pain! ;)

Last car was black, when it was clean there was nothing quite like it. Don't think I'd ever own one again though, at least not in Ireland!

I have had a number of black cars and keep coming back to them. Each time I say never again they are such a pain in the stones. But when they are clean, oh boy, stunning. A clean waxed black car in the sun is fab.

Silver I'd say. You often see silver cars that look ok and on closer inspection they have half an inch of cow shíte on them

I only ever had one black car and never, ever again. Apart from it showing the dirt and swirls like no other colour, and any small scratches showing up like crazy due to the white undercoat, it made my car almost as invisible to other car users as my other car colour disaster which was metallic graphite grey, in other words, "road coloured".

    +1

Same for me. Have had 3 before my current and every time say I'm not getting black again but keep coming back to the black cars. When cleaned and waxed it looks amazing for that 20 mins until it either gets a layer of dust or rain :P

Some weeks I find my self washing it twice (2BM) and topping up with hybrid v7. It gets a proper wax and clean every 5-6 weeks

It also shows every imperfection. I think the guy who had it before me washed it with brillo pads or something. Need to get it properly polished.

Of all the colours i had in cars i find white the easiest to keep clean.

My last 3 cars were black, best colour when it's cleaned and waxed. Terrible when it's anywhere other than a hermetically sealed box!

With black if there are any swirls or scratches bright sunshine will expose them viscously! With black the difference with other colours is that you're looking at the lacquer rather than the paint below. At least that's what a painter told me some time back.

My last car was black and never again, soul destroying.

So now I have practical silver - easier life.

There's a shytty brown colour that's on the corolla that never looks dirty, because it is the colour of dirt! The aunt has one, and it never looks bad, the alloys are the only part that get very grubby.

    This colour.
