    Hey everyone,
I'm hoping someone can help me. So I'm a graduate who has been on the lookout for roles. It's been frustrating but finally I have caught attention from some big companies and finally some offers too.
My problem is as such, i applied for a grad/development role for a very well known tech company via CPL. Starting salary 25k 12 month contract.
Months before i had also applied for that company but never heard from them. The role is pretty much the same. However the benefits lead towards a permanent role after probation, good benefits and circa 28k starting.
Now to my problem: I have just come home to a job offer from CPL. meanwhile the company themselves had contacted me two days ago to organise an interview for next Thursday.
What do I do? Whilst I have a job via CPL, I'd much prefer the job if successful so i don't really know what to do. This will be my first job after finishing college btw

    If i get you right...

CPL got you an interview with the company (i'm guessing you interviewed)
    you got the job.

then the company themselves contacted you for another (but similar role) .

if so I'd talk to the company , they had your CV first so it's not like they are hijacking CPL ask them for advice or their preferred option stating that youd' prefer the 28k role.
In fact the 28k role is probably what your CPL job is paying but they are taking a cut.,

CPL may piss and moan but if they get business off this firm and it's a major firm so they won't rock the boat too much .

But I'd do this before thursday so you know where you stand.
Let the company deal with CPL , if they want you they'll tell CPL where to go.

btw CPL were in the black sheep friday last. 22th april
company card behind the bar - partying on your commission :pac::pac:

    Hi there
    Thanks for your reply.
That's exactly it, your spot on.
I have already told the company my situation and they pretty much said what you said. how they had my cv first etc. I just don't want to burn any bridges with CPL.
Currently they have offered me the job as of yesterday. Should I accept the offer or try and delay it??

    Thanks

As long as you have not signed the contract with CPL, then you are free to accept which ever contract you wish. If on the other hand you signed a contract with CPL, which contains a restriction of practices clause, then the company needs to sort it out with CPL not you. And honestly if they are not will to man up and sort out a mess of their making then I'd have my doubts about them.

I would be extremely surprised if CPL contracts contain a restriction of practises clause: If the company is who I suspect, then it is very normal for CPL agency workers to go on to become company staff.

OP, probably you cannot stall CPL for long enough to find out if the company make an offer - they may take weeks.

So, I would just sign with CPL, and then if you get an offer from the company talk to them about the timing of you resigning from the CPL job and starting the company.

It may be the same job - or it may be similar work but in a totally different group, with different hiring managers. So the important thing is that you are 100% clear with the company about what is going on and what your preference is.

The worse possible scenarios is for CPL to withdraw their offer, and then you not get the direct job. You need to make sure this doesn't happen.

A CPL agent will likely be annoyed at missing out on commission, but they'll get over it. And they will get to place someone else in the agency-role if you leave it.

Yeah I know the worst possible outcome but I have been fully clear to both parties.
I have read through the contract and their are a lot of clauses surrounding applying for in house roles with the company.
My main concern was surrounding whether or not accepting would lock me in to that role per say even if I was offered the main role ?

I'd guess CPL would take a cut of any other roles you got in the company rather then block you.

    It's a job, not a prison sentence :-)

If the company want you, CPL are going to let them have you. Not to do so would hurt CPL far more than it would hurt you.

Thanks for the replies. So a little update. I went for the interview, went really well. Two hours later they have moved me to the next phase which was references and a medical quistionaire. They say they will get back to me early next week. Meanwhile CPL have been ringing and ringing and ringing followed by emails. What will I say to them, with the intention of trying to delay their offer until I hear back?
