Picking up free TV channels

    Hello,

I got this TV - LG 49UF680V (you can find it on currys website)
It says that it has DVB-T2 Irish Digital Ready HD Tuner.

I probably should have double checked but I though it means I'd be able to pickup some channels with just the TV and no external antennae etc. Was I wrong? TV doesn't pickup anything at all.

Does that mean I will need a separate box to watch Saorview / Freeview or whatever is Digital TV called these days? (Apologies for my ignorance. Not a TV expert ;) ). Or should I just get a room aerial? Is there analog TV at all in Ireland?

Can you advise what's the best thing to do? I just want some free basic channels (not subscription based packages like sky etc).
I don't care much about recording, streaming or bells and whistles :)

    Many thanks!
    E.

You would need to be hooked up to a dish the TV has internal tuner only I think.

    Thanks for swift reply :)
I don't really need anything as advanced as a satellite dish though. Was looking for something that doesn't involve installation / drilling etc.

An aerial is required in all cases. Analogue TV was switched off back in Oct 2012.

An outdoor aerial is recommended but in some cases an indoor aerial might work but depends on what the signal is like indoors.
