Saw this yesterday, orange peel so bad it would make you laugh, unless you had paid for it. Merc should be ashamed.

More environmentally friendly paint to make up for the killer CO2 emissions.

Pretty lousy alright. I remember someone saying to me before that it's "desirable" to have on BMWs. What a bizarre statement to make.

It wouldn't be the first car that was partially resprayed before delivery. Damage can happen during the transit process.

Bmw under showroom lights are seriously poor but it still does look like a proper finish not like the orange peel you tend to get following a poor respray.

was beside a 161 c class last week and the finish was awful. thought it was resprayed.

In Cork, about 10% of all fords that arrive are damaged, and undergo repairs/respray.

If you know where to go, you can see them lined up with stickers and black markers indicating where the dents, scratched and holes are.

I witnessed a brand new e-class being backed off a transporter outside a main dealer a few years back and the driver managed to put a decent length tear down the drivers side

The car was swiftly driven down to a paint shop down the road, got a full repair and respray and was back in the showroom a few days later as if nothing happened.

They did a great job to be honest but I doubt the new owner was informed of what happened before they handed over some serious money for it.

Standard paint finish on modern cars. Many reasons for it, including covering up defects easier.

    Hate it myself

You do realise that 99.9% of people who buy new cars have no clue that the factory paintwork is sh1te?

Especially considering some of the "repair" jobs I've seen on customers cars who are trying to trade them in.

Some manufacturers are far better than others for orange peel, despite them all using water based paints. Some Lexus, Renault and Mazda have mirror smooth finishes. With that badge up front Merc obviously aren't bothered.

10% seems like a lot. they must be very bad drivers.

More likely just don't give a toss or are under a tight deadline to get stuff unloaded?

I thought 10% was a lot as well.. i got this info from someone working for Ford, and i've seen the damaged cars first hand.

Paint finish has gone downhill massively on new cars. That's very common and is the usual. If you see a well looked after German car from the early 00's the paintwork is exceptional. I've valeted quite a few cars for friend and family members and the newer cars always have orange peel from factory. It can be sorted with a lot of time and wet sanding but let's be honest you should have to correct a cars paint from factory. Sadly though it's usually needed as the delivery valet usually destroys paintwork before they leave the showroom.

Ford sold 12,000 cars last year. I don't believe for a minute that they're damaging 1200 cars a year. That's 3 or 4 cars every single day of the year. (Not even including vans)

I work down by a Mercedes franchise and all the cars are run through the local car wash down the road.I wouldn't put a 130k car through one.

    Not a hope.
4 cars damaged out of 40 every day.
A blind monkey would do better.
