    Hi All,

Wondering if someone could help with the following query.

My wife just received a letter from the appeals office in Dublin to say she was approved for the IP. She applied almost 2 years ago. It is just subject to her having the required PRSI contributions/Tax Credits which we have checked and know this will be ok, the section in Longford will obviously check this first before replying to her and I know there will possibly be another delay in payment starting granted all goes smoothly.

My question is, will she get back dated to date of application?

I have seen in other threads here where people have said yes where they were getting back dated for 30 months but I am a bit worried there is a cap even if I have seen others say 30 months is no problem.

I suppose we are just hoping for some clarification that this is the case before they write to us, don't want to get our hopes up but would be nice to know if others here have gone through this process which would help give us some confirmation.

    Cheers :)

Invalidity pension will be backdated to the date the pension was awarded . a friend of mine was awarded one about 4 years ago and it was backdated . Ring the pension section in Longford they are a pleasure to deal with .

Cheers, will do but have to give them 2 weeks first as the letter was only received today from Dublin.

That sounds promising, hopefully she will get the full amount, it would be a nice little sum :)

You will probably need to allow more than a fortnight. I'm afraid it's all rather slow, but worth in in the end. When she is awarded don't forget to apply for HBP if you quailify and aren't already in receipt.
BTW, tax credits have no bearing, it's PRSI alone.

We don't mind the extra wait at this stage, used to it by now..lol

We won't be entitled to the HBP as I am working so that is ok. I meant to say PRSI Contributions/Credits which is ok I assume.

She hasn't received any payments from them at all so there should be no deductions on the backdated payment hopefully.

We actually chanced ringing them there just to make a query. They were very nice and helpful.

The lady we spoke with said all looked good and in order in regards to contributions, etc (My wife provided her with her PPS #) and that as soon as they received the letter or get to it, they just implement it and start the payments and it should take another 2 weeks after that to get back dated and she confirmed that this will be as far back as when she applied for it which is great news.

I know it is possible that it will take a bit longer than what she said but it looks promising after our brief chat with her.
