Myself and my husband are going to a family gathering for his nieces confirmation this week. All guests are paying for themselves 🀔. How much cash should we put in the card? His niece is not his god child.

20 euros is perfectly acceptable. Unless she is his ONLY niece. If she is going to get 20 cards.. then 20 euros is about right.

Nothing. Give a book voucher from Veritas or suchlike.

€20, minus the cost of your food.
Looks like you could be invoicing the child instead of paying her.

I think €20 is fine too... it's what me and most of my family/friends would have given on these occasions too. :)

In the 60's when I was confirmed in the CoI, my godmother gave me a Bible which I still have. My name was engraved on the cover and it is very precious. I didn't receive anything else from anyone else, and neither was I led to expect anything. The day itself was tremendously exciting as it all happened in Christchurch Cathedral. I was the first one of the rather large group being confirmed that day and I was very nervous. All went off rather well, and we went to my auntie's for tea and cake afterwards. Loved every minute of it except the nervousness. I was fourteen years old. :)

I was talking to a lad the other day who's child cleared €1000 for his confirmation. Blew my mind. I came out with a watch and about £250 - thought I was fookin rich!

I think if family and friends actually understand the true meaning of the confirmation service they probably would be sensible in gift-giving, however, in many cases its almost as if its the day a child suddenly becomes an adult, like the Jewish Bar-Mitzvah!
