Tax problem

Hi, I've been working in a pub since September, it was my first proper job. However the odd time I've noticed my wages are incorrect as we receive them as cash in hand. One day I worked 3 days of 21 hours, and only received 86 euro. I've been on to them for weeks and there saying it was taxed however I've never got a payslip or anything however I did give then my pps number half way through the year. Since I've brought this up with them I coincidentally got a letter in the post stating my employer has requested a tax credit certificate to be issued to me, but the revenue is unable to deal with it as I am not registered for PAYE, and have been told to complete a 12a form from the revenue. Sorry if this is all very confusing i just have a feeling I'm being done out of it and I'd like if someone could clarify my situation?
    Thank you

if this is your first ever job and you have never registered with Revenue they don't know about you and how much your tax credits should be. You need to complete the form 12A asap and send it in to your local Revenue office. Revenue will then issue your employer with a certificate of tax credits for you and the employer should use this to calculate your tax/prsi/usc etc each week. you should get a payslip each week by law and you should have received a P60 form for the tax year ending December 2015. you should have received this in mid February 2016.

I would be a bit concerned that you haven't been receiving Payslips and a P60 from last year but alot of hospitality employers are very lax when dealing with pay and taxes and hopefully they are handling it correctly but just not issuing the paperwork to you. There is nothing wrong with being paid cash but you should also get the payslips so that you can see the correct deductions are being made for you and forwarded to Revenue. It is important that you are paying whatever taxes are due and receiving a weekly credit as this goes towards you getting any health/pension benefits that might be due to you in the future.

You should also register with Revenue online so that you can put in for a claim of taxes refund which might be due to you from 2015. Once you have registered online with revenue, you should request a P21 Balancing Statement which will look at your pay and taxes paid for 2015 and calculate if a refund is due.

this is copy of the Form 12A - you will need your employer's proper company name and Number for this form. Normally you'd have it on a payslip or P60 so you might have to ask them for this.
