    Hi all,

Been driving my mams car for a few years now but finally bought my own car on Tuesday and have a few questions as I'm dying to take it out for a spin:

    1) How long does it take for VRC to go through if sent to Shannon by post as the tax is out on the car?
    2) Should I get insured while waiting?
    3) If I get insured before the VRC/tax comes would I be able to drive the car?

    Thanks in advance!

    Usually around one week.
    2) Should I get insured while waiting?
If you want to drive the car, then you should.

You will be able to drive it, but you are risking €60 fine for non-display of tax disc.
If you have put your email address on the VRC, then once they acknowledge change of ownership (you can check on motortax.ie website), you can tax vehicle online there and then. No need to wait for your VRC in the post.
