Government Stamp Duty

I received a statement for an unused credit card recently showing a debit balance of €30 for the GSD.

I contacted the card provider to explain it was unused and to request cancellation. They said the current €30 outstanding would have to be paid plus €30 for the current year!

    Is this information correct?

Yes this is correct. If you were to be taking out a new credit card you can get a receipt from the currenty provider and you won't need to pay it for the new provider for first year.

If I were to keep it until March 2017 then cancel it there'd be no further stamp duty to pay then?
