Bought Car and CD Player not working

    Hey all

So the GF bought a car roughly 10 months ago, secondhand from dealer.

About 3 months in, the CD player stopped working, she informed them, told her bring it in for a look. They said the CD player was working, it hadn't been working before being sent into them, but was working now, but stopped again a few days later, she badgered them with calls and eventually got them to look at it again 5 months later, they now agree the CD player is in fact broken and have said it will cost a minimum of €250 to fix the issue...

Is there anything to be done?

A new CD player would cost less.

How old is the car? Its unlikely that a CD player would be included in the warranty.

    2012

Its a ford, where the cd player is built into the whole dashboard

Did she get a warranty with the car?

Yep but they are saying it was only for engine and gearbox

That's normal for those warranties. You might pickup a stereo online that will slot in. What did they say was wrong with it anyway.

Happens on Ford CD6000 CD Players. Replacing the unit is the Ford solution and no cheaper option available.

Might be able to pick up a unit from a scrapyard and as long as it's the same dimensions as the current one, is should just be plug & play, but that depends on the age of the car. Older units need the code to work, so if you do pick one up then make sure you get the code if there is one.

They didn't say what was wrong, only that it was broken

TBH i would go into them with the "Isnt this suppose to last a decent duration" line. A car CD player should not fail within 4 years like. They are designed to be there the life of the car which could be 10+ years.

i know but if there is no liability to remedy the problem what can you actually do

People still use CD's? :) My CD slot is used for a phone cradle. No Bluetooth in a 2012 car?

Anyway, sorry OP, I can't see the dealer doing much for you. It may be best to have a look at a 2nd hand replacement. A change of head unit may also be an option, I wonder if eonon have a model to fit that car

Is it not dealing a car in bad faith, the cd player has failed after 4 months of purchase...

Not really, electronics can fail prematurely, you're just unlucky.

Get one from a scrapyard or contact someone who repairs radios.
If it was working when you bought it, there's nothing the garage will do.
