    Hi all.
Looking for some help on gas prepaid meters. The previous owners of the house got a prepaid meter installed. tbh I find it a nuisance and want to change it to a normal meter and pay the bill as normal. Thing is Bord Gáis want to charge 200quid for this!!! Needless to say I'm shocked. I appreciate effort has to go in to changing it but we didn't sign up to it nor do we want to keep it. Anyways, what I was wondering is there a way to legitimately change the meter and not have this charge?

Perhaps this should belong in another forum such as bargain alerts requests but I thought the knowledge might be in this forum.

    TIA

Why not keep it & top up in large amounts. A few hundred at a time. It'll be just like paying by Bill

It'd be nice to avail of the offers to save money. But paying having a prepaid meter takes away those options. Paying the 200 also means that it would take some time before it balances out in my favour for savings, and probably before the offer period is up since we don't really use the heating all that much.

It might just be a case of suck it up and then in like two years or more I can start actually making savings.
