Odd request - rent a Skoda Suberb

    Hey all,

An odd request here. A family member has had a knee replaced, meaning that they can not get into the front passenger seat of our families cars, which had been a great difficulty even before the replacement. They are due to come home over the weekend and we have some transport problems.

The knee which was done means that she needs a front passenger door on the other side of the car. Getting into the front passenger door or sliding into the rear of the cars we have are looking like no go areas.

I had a thought that since the fairly recent Skoda Suberb models have had such large rear passenger doors, renting one of those would be a solution as a taxi would be very expensive (70km distance) and if there was any immediate issues which meant that the family member had to go anywhere, the taxi would not be available.

Would there be any company which could rent one of those out? I am thinking the car rental companies but this is more a mission of mercy!

    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

Aren't Skoda dealers doing test drives on Superbs and 5 Series at the moment so you can compare both?

Not sure if it's spins around the block or a few hours.

Enterprise used to use a lot of Superbs in their F group rentals but haven't seen any for a good while and the new model is in fairly short supply so they don't need to find homes for them as rental cars.

What about renting a van and sticking them in the back?

    Only joking!
But could rent a people carrier with a sliding door. Getting in and out off would be easy.

Ring the car rentals and they'll fix you up with one. Simples

In practice, that has never worked for me. They just sell you a category of car and rarely guarantee a specific model.

I have a Skoda Superb. And while the leg room in the back is 'Superb', I don't think the back door is any wider than a car of the equivalent size.

I got a Yeti for a weekend test drive last year from the dealers in Sandyford. Might be worth sounding them out. You'll have to make it look like a genuine test drive though and not just show up asking for a lend of a car.

I think this is possibly the best solution - considering most rental companies don't guarantee the specific type of car, but a "like it"; If you specify you want a people carrier with the huge van-like side door, they'll give you one. And going through that sliding door is no more difficult than going through a...house door :)

Thanks all, the test drive idea is one which I'm fond of.

Although the width of the door of the Skoda may not be much bigger in class, its just that it would be much bigger than anything else in the family wagon range.

    Thanks for the suggestions!
