I am considering selling an item with a sales value around €500. It's likely to have a world wide appeal. I am guessing that Paypal is the best option but are there any pitfalls ? I have a PP account but have never received payments apart from refunds.

As the item is fragile I guess that using a world wide courier would be a good idea ?

PayPal is very risky to use from a seller's side but it's pretty safe from the buyer's side. That means that you are likely to attract a lot more interest if you are willing to accept it as method of payment. But if any probs arise at a later stage, be warned that PayPal tends to be on the side of the buyer.

The safest way to get paid for sellers is bank transfer.

Whatever you decide, an item of that value should be posted tracked, requiring a signature and insured.

Also since it is quite fragile, it would be advisable to prefer a local buyer over someone far away
