Replacing 02 Focus and 09 Mondeo Estate

As the above says, I have a 2002 Ford Focus 1.6 that failed the NCT, its the second car in the house. I also have 1.6 petrol Mondeo Estate.

I originally thought I'd just replace the Focus with a 2007 or 2008 1.4 and keep the Mondeo for another few years. But now I'm thinking I'll change both. To give some background I bought the Mondeo 4 years ago when my wife was out of work and we were due a baby. I went petrol because she was going to be the main driver of it and it would be short runs. Then she ended up back in work and preferred the smaller car in a tight car park

So now I drive the Mondeo 60km return journey on the motor way to work. I also live in Swords and go over to the other side of the M50 once a week to visit family. Had I intended on driving the Mondeo I would have gone diesel.

I was going to spend 6k replacing the Focus but now I think I'll get rid of the Mondeo and hopefully get 6k for it.

So I was thinking of replacing in with a 2008/2009 Qashai 1.6 petrol so she could take that and a friend of mine is selling a 2005 VW Golf Diesel 1.9 tdi with about 120k miles. I reckon I could get it for about 3500.

And then possibly get rid of the golf and get myself something new in about 3 years when I decide I want a proper loan and a car with more toys.

Another thought was to get a 2007 1.4 petrol focus for her, and replace my Mondeo with a Renault Laguna III 1.5 diesel. Again spending about 5k on the focus and 6k on the laguna therefore staying within my original budget and getting a diesel still.

    Am I mad??

The Focus petrol range from 05-08 is a disaster, I bought a brand new one in 07 and at this stage it's effectively line Trigger's Broom in Only Fools and Horses.

I think your second option is the best option and they are both good cars. The 05 Golfs with that engine give a lot of trouble. A know a few people who have had them and have had a lot of trouble with them. What about getting a Seat Leon or Skoda Octavia and the Laguna if you can,t get a good Focus or don,t like that Focus.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Get the mondeo valeted and up on donedeal ASAP to see what it's really worth, and determine your budget then.
