Tresiba (insulin degludec) for T1 diabetics?

    Hi,

I was diagnosed with T1 diabetes last Friday after going to A&E with ketones at 5.6... was very close to DKA but thankfully I got there before it happened on the advice of my GP.

I've been started on Levemir and NovoRapid and it is going well so far. Blood glucose is still too high but it has been settling over the last few days. I presume it will get better as we get more information about my BGs and adjust my doses accordingly.

One thing that I've noticed is that my blood sugars run a couple of mmols higher just before lunch time, which is when I'm taking my Levemir, so, it doesn't seem to be lasting the 24 hours.

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about this relatively new Tresiba insulin (insulin degludec) which seems to be much longer lasting? Is anybody currently using it? I can't really find out much information on it in Ireland. I'm wondering if it is covered on the LTI as I want to ask my endo about it when I see him in a few weeks.

    Thanks!
