Sat box upgrade advice wanted

OK apologies in advance for yet another "which box" thread but I need to pick your brains. Basically I have been using an Amiko Alien2 for the past few years and was happy enough with it. Circumstances too boring to go into now mean I need to get a new box/upgrade. As this will be a major investment for me, I want to future proof it as best possible.
In recent months the main choices seem to be the likes of the Edision, Xtrend or VU+ range.
I was also considering making the jump (earlier than I wanted) to a 4K compatible box such as this VU+ Solo. I have access to 19° and 13° so maybe some German or Polish providers may have 4K FTA in the not too distant future.I know there is only 4k test channels FTA at the moment and presumably if it ever takes off here on 28° will be Sky only. Is it worth the extra cost to go 4K or will it ever be FTA?

Any thoughts, comments and suggestions welcome.
    TIA
    Gerry

By the time 4k becomes commonly available it will be time to change the new box again, so I don't see much point in going 4k at present.
    ;)

    No disrepect

This box is the real deal [ The dogs b@llox if you ask me have one kodi 16.1 and blackbox wizards :D

Should be getting unicable lnb for 8 FBC tuners this week if sat experts have them unicable lnb in hopefully hav,nt checked last 2 weeks .

Now i hav,nt even scratch the surface of this box yet but i know after buying this box it will be a long time before i,ll be needing any upgrade and this box image wise early days but is going to get better and better but still great now as it stands .

But as always its down to personal choice .

Always try to buy local regardless what shop you buy from first if possible plenty of respect irish own shops out there as it benifits all .:)

Is there any Irish suppliers of the VU+ Solo 4K? I would always support local market when possible.

I bought a VU+ Duo2 in November. Like you, I wanted to buy in Ireland. I found 2 places; One wouldnt post the box and would only sell over the counter and the other had no online payment system and wanted me to transfer money into his bank account (he said paypal and the likes would cost him too much money). So I thought F**k that and ordered from World of satellite in the UK.

Gerry if you can wait until mid summer you will see a proliferation of new satellite boxes with Quadcore CPUs on par with the VU 4K box but without the stupid price tag.

Gigablue have UHD boxes due out mid year, including the Quad

BCM7366 and BCM 7376 is a handy search term for the new 4K SOCs.

Note that VU+ are moving away from MIPS to ARM for their 4k boxes.

Funny enough, so far I found WoS cheaper than the German sites even with the sterling exchange rate.A surprise to say the least.

@STB. If possible I would prefer to hold off for a while yet. It's a €200 jump from a duo to the 4k at the moment. I'm replacing a friends dying box with my AA2 so hopefully hers will last a few weeks longer.
In the past, I was the guy who bought an MPEG2 TV 2 weeks before RTÉ opted for MPEG4 instead :(

As always its down to price ,choice what works for you as your the one going to be usein the box nobody esle .

Myself did,nt buy the box for 4k for channels as we know there,s feck all out there worth watching at the moment or any time soon but sorted when things change .

    Also 4k is 480 now in sat experts.ie http://www.satexperts.ie/shop-categories/boxes/vu-solo-4k-detail

Also they have the unicable lnbs in 65 euro its a inverto unicable Quad 40mm lnd 2 leagacy ports pick one up yesterday after work could,nt get answer on phone so took chance to drop in as i was going bye not on there site yet but in stock .

Just a heads up for beginners out there buy whatever box suits you but don,t buy

Dreambox 500 piece of ****e dream hav,nt made these boxes in years get rid

Openboxes only sold by sub sellers so they can do **** all work and charge you about 120 for 30 euro box from china

Skyboxes another piece of crap so don,t be getting rip-off .

As there plenty of bargains out there Edision Os mini sold by freetv.ie and others Vu+ zero my favorite but osmini 2nd and lx2 or 3 posted by givecredit in that price range even some Technomates new one on Wos now good deal grap a android box and your sorted .

Got plenty of stuff off Wos over the years and will be in the future as its always A+ service and aftercare suppot A+like most irish shops do .

And the above crappy boxes if anybody tells you anything different trust me they have a vested interest or a load of boxes to shift .

The new Gigablue STB mentioned looks the best deal in 4k when it becomes available. I've seen them listed at €440 inc terrestrial tuner compared to €560 for the VU+ from Satexperts and similar money from German suppliers. I will try and hold off for now. Like all things no doubt the prices will fall when more brands are launched.

    Thanks everyone for your feedback.;)

No problem and i say prices will drop an always get the best bang for your buck .

As you know at the moment kodi only runs on vu+ and some mutant boxes and vu+ only have FBC tuners at the moment i think but would not be a deal breaker .

Gigablue not a bad box at all had a Quad for two weeks at the start of the year sold on to me mate go a Vu+ 4k as its personal choice as always .
