    Hi

I had been waiting for three years for an orthopedic consultation with the HSE. In November of last year i was referred by the HSE to a private hospital for consultation and consequently had foot surgery. This was in an effort by the HSE to reduce their waiting times.

I still have alot pf pain in my foot, am still limping and can only wear runners. I have been to my GP and had antibiotics and anti inflammatory meds etc. But I still have pain

So I rang the consultant yesterday to ask for a follow up appointment. He said he wont see me and to go back to the HSE Hospital that I was first referred to.

The waiting list for referrals within the HSE for orthopedics is still years long and to be honest I'm actually worse off now because I cant weight bear on the part of my foot where I had the surgery.

Has anyone experienced this previously and could advise me please? What do I do from here????

    Many Thanks

That is ridiculous and part of why the LWI scheme is problematic.

You were classed as a public patient all the way through, so in my experience there are 2 options. Either be fit into a public clinic where the consultant sits, or get your GP to send a referral through to the private clinic so you can be seen privately, but there isn't an option to continue as a public patient in the private rooms. Ring the public hospital outpatients or the secretary and ask about follow-up.

You could get a referral from your GP for the consultant, the consults generally cost somewhere between 100-200

When my daughter had surgery under the same scheme she was referred back to the consultant that performed the surgery in his public clinic. She did not have to wait on the waiting list again.
