I'm going to ask here as it's a similar kind of line.

If you buy a car at an auction or a repo one, can you get the reg changed on it? You get one key with it, and think the previous owner still has one and will find it, or previous owner kept getting stopped by Gardaí so reg is known, (so a change of Reg will ease the paranoia)

Afaik, once car has a plate it stays on that plate, even if you register it in the UK and later bring it back.
But maybe someone else knows if things have changed.

Moved out from someone else's thread

You can just get a dealer to delete the other key's transponder code from the immobiliser. The worst the other key can then do is just open the car as it will not start

No change of reg possible. Even with the U.K. Export process as described above, the car will,be assigned the old reg if reimported.
New keys and new ecu coding may be possible from someone with dealer type computer.

Most cars in the last 10 years can just have the ecu reprogrammed by a dealer, no need for new keys/ecu.

I think when the car is 30 years old you can get a set of ZV's for it. If it's not you'll have to keep it in the shed for a while

You can also notif Gardaí as to the change of owner if you get stopped. They'll inform you of the process.

Thanks for the answers, Haven't bought one, but was contemplating/viewing.

It's funny that they try and make money any which way, on tax, vrt, "road tax" a E100 on a re-reg wouldn't be bad,
