I was thinking of installing a back boiler in my house. There's 2 bedrooms and a bathroom in the basement, would this be an issue for the boiler and how effective are they?? Also does anyone have a rough estimate of price ?

It could probably be done. It would be expensive, because the piping needed is specialised (it's not just a matter of running a bit of plastic pipes. It won't be cost effective, especially with the price of oil and gas so low.

One big issue is that the skills for installing this stuff are not around anymore. If you do decide to do it, make sure the person actually knows what they are doing. This will most likely mean that the person doing it will be well over 50, because back boilers were really last big in the 80s. Unless it is set up right, you can create an extremely dangerous situation with hot water under pressure.

So you're saying you have to be over 50 to plumb solid fuel correctly?
While I'm sure you're half kidding I'd agree that the majority of plumbers don't have a clue how to pipe solid fuel. I know I do, and others, who arr well under 50

Some fellas used to blow up their customers in the 80s as well ;)

OP If you have a gas boiler already you need to be more careful than if you have oil.

There are quite a few devices on the market for adding BB, if it were me I'd fit one of those because if there are any issues down the road you have somebody to go back to(as long as it's fitted asper MI)
