Waste pipe sizes - Ireland versus Europe

Until last year, my brother was living/working in Germany but is back in country and building house for himself and family. He brought some bits and pieces from Germany with him including 3 linear shower drain. They look the part, but I think he might have made a mistake because although the datasheet for the drain says it has a 50mm outlet, a 2" waste pipe from builders merchants doesn't fit.
The waste pipe encircles the outlet but is loose. He thought himself that 50mm was equivalent to 2" so he'd have no problems.

Are converters available to handle this sort of dimension dilemma?

    There's def. a difference alright :)
Be surprised if there wasn't some sort of adaptor though.

In case anyone is browsing and has the same issue , I found a fitting to allow a reduction from 2" imperial waste to 50mm European. From a layman's perspective it seems to be good quality with screw type fittings with seals on each end to encircle the pipes and tighten when twisted. Will see what plumber makes of it.

No vested interest in the manufacturer/seller but here's a link:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/McAlpine-Z28L-ISO-2-Multifit-Straight-Connector-x-50mm-European-Pipe-Size-x1-/121957271786?

    Mods, remove link if inappropriate.

Ones metric and the other is imperial thread. (square pegs, round holes) hence the adapter

..or round pegs into slightly larger round holes :p

Any sign of us (Eire) to go metric in the plumbing department?

They weren't Schluter linear drains by any chance were they?
I'm importing a few of them and so looks like I will have the same issue......

    I've taken the plunge and decided to plumb the house using metric. It has turned into a bit of a nightmare to be honest. The random bits are the hardest to get;
    Tank Connectors
    Lever valves
    Reduced branch tees
    Couplers for filters, etc.

Brother tells me the drains are branded ESS..haven't done a google for them so not sure. Think he has a few more fittings that are metric too so I'm sure he'll have other problems as the job progresses.

My drains arrived today and actually seem to be 2 inch, as opposed to 50mm.

However they came with the coupler (picture attached) which may be of help to somebody else...... It's an American product, made by fernco.

Actually, just realising - maybe my drains are 50mm and the coupler is to help the US guys go from 50mm to 2"?

The are a German drain, but I got them in the US. I just need to get some 2" pipe, fittings and maybe traps and I should be good to go.
