Can anyone give any guidance on the procedures/rules around secondment. When is it determined if you are releasable. Is it before you apply or post-interview when you are offered the position. Can secondments be negotiated with your employer or does the decision solely lie with them? Any guidance would be most appreciated.

It is up to your current employer to decide if they will release you and they should do this as soon as you have decided to apply.

You can of course attempt to persuade them if they won't but the decision is theirs. They remain paying you for the period of secondment and may not be able to replace you so therefore they have a big say.

If they won't release you then there is little point in the other side considering you further so interview etc is a bit pointless
