Getting fibre broadband - router being moved?

    Hi
I currently have adsl and the Vodafone modem/ router is connected to an extension phone socket. I also have a few network cables connected to it

I presume with getting fibre the router will now be connected to master socket

Will I need to run a cat5 to old router location and fit a switch for the cables? Or could an old eircom modem /router be used as a access point and switch, thanks.

You can't link the two via phone cable so you must either run a new Cat5/5e/6 run or use Powerline Adapters. The latter is often a very competent solution. The HG658 from vodafone could be used as an AP in the same location.

The HG658 will be moved to the main socket will it not?

Oh, with Vodafone it would be yes, other providers use ADSL only modems so you end up with a spare.

    Thanks
Can I use a spare netopia 2247 as an access point and switch if i run a cat5 to it?

Would it be easy to setup?

I've used two of them before, easy to do. They're only .11b though so they'll bottleneck things significantly. Archer C20is are cheap and pretty fast, something like them might be worth the few bob.

    Thanks
I'm only getting 25mbit fibre for now due to location

    What's involved in setup of 2247 ?

Powerline adaptors are great yokes, highly recommend them
