Sun holiday with a toddler

I'm looking for some recommendations for a holiday destination suitable to take our toddler this summer. He will be almost 18 month at the time and I want to go somewhere that will really work for us all. So any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. We're hoping to go to either Spain (incl. Canaries) or Portugal.

    The following are must haves:
Either apartment or suite accommodation with separate bedroom and kitchenette.
Walking distance to nearby village or to a selection of restaurants, bars etc.
    Good standard of accommodation
    Kids playground/playroom
    Child friendly resort.
    Baby sitting service.

    Nice to have:
Crèche that would take an 18 month old for a few hours over the course of the week.
    Gym
    Near beach

I'm not looking for much!!

We took our 19 month old to lanzarote last month. We stayed in the Galeon Playa in Costa Teguise. They have a baby club there that operates 6 days per week, morning and Afternoon. Children have to be 1 and over. There is also a playground there and Todd!er pool. Plenty of restaurants within an easy walking distance. We had a 2 bed Apartment toi

I cant give heaps of suggestions I am afraid but at that age I would be weary of going somewhere too hot. My daughter likes the heat but we recently travelled with her and it was hitting 30 degrees, she couldnt sleep, she couldnt play in the sun, wasnt nice really.

Have you considered camping sites in France? Would tick a lot of the boxes and generally theres peace of mind with the added security of closed gates and restricted access. Have a peek at Yelloh village, some great spots and cheaper than the main companies.

If you really want Spain, apart from the creche aspect, consider Torrevieja or thereabouts. Lovely park with playground, harbour with beaches, promenade and bars / restaurants. plenty of English speakers too without a load of drunken yobs on stag parties

    Thanks esforum

We're going in early May so shouldn't be too hot anywhere at that stage I don't think.

Some might laugh, but Benidorm is good, but stay a little outside the main town, we use hotel aqua de lux, its a proper 4 star, usually a 4 star in Spain is only as good as an Irish 3 star, great theme parks nearby, even just to walk around them for now, nice pools, etc, or try Salou, very nice too.

true, in May it will be late 20's in this area. Still wouldnt stick to Benidorm, far better to ju,mp in the car and drive for an hour than stay beside the parks (Mundomar, etc)

Why not go to the west coast of Portugal...the coast near Lisbon? The weather will be lovely but not too hot and you will get all of the facilities that you are looking for.
