iPhone 5 ear speaker stopped working

Has anyone had this problem? It just stopped working, perhaps soon after the iOS 9.3 update. Apple are suggesting a reset of settings or a full reset but I don't want to lose wi-fi passwords et al if it isn't going to fix it. Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
