Contract before accepting job offer

Is it common or acceptable to ask for a copy of the job contract before accepting a job? Just don't want to accept a job and then discover a few grey areas in the contract. The role is a sales based one so there appeared to be some greyness in clarity around the bonuses and the overall package ie pension ect

Absolutely. I did that every time. And didn't hand in my notice to previous job until contract signed.

If I was leaving my current job for a new job id ask for a contract , just so as i didn't hand in my notice to my current company & then for the other job to fall through

I wouldn't consider a job accepted until the contract is signed.

Never start a job without getting your contract.

Its more so to see the contract and see exactly on paper what I would be getting myself into, don't want to go from the pan to the fire!
