Homeless Family Suing SDCC

So a family who feel the council are not meeting their needs after deciding where to live are suing because they can't get their own way.

One how can a homeless family afford legal bills, I really hope the lose and have to pay legal costs. Perhaps if they spent it on condoms it would be better

It's everything that's wrong with the system here in Ireland.

FLA (free legal Aid ) is most likely.

As someone who's currently 9 years on sdcc with several degenerative medical conditions and I'm not down as priority,
Sickens me to read these stories in the media with their sob stories.

A few months in the sdcc housing list and demanding priority

So many typos in that article.

What do you mean by free legal aid?

Do you mean a case brought by the Legal Aid Board?

They moved from Longford to south Dublin. It said in another newspaper they cancelled their housing application with Longford county council, why are doing suing Sdcc? It doesn't make sense. They have only been in Dublin since October 2015, why should they get priority over other families who have been on the list for much longer.

Maybe they require specific need accomodation somewhere for the ponies to run around

In fairness, a voluntary organisation? I suspect they would not give this case time and energy unless it had merit.

Why live in Longford when you can live in leafy south Dublin.
Its well for them, the one that shouts loudest and all that .
How are they getting around,in a 15 LD reg people carrier

The Two Minute Hatred still going strong I see,
    'Ohh, look at the surname!'
They are married, why shouldn't they have a child, she's pregnant with one, not 12.
The case does raise the grey area around moving Counties when on the housing list, which should be far less opaque than it is presently.
And for anyone who thinks staying in a hotel must be a treat - you have a home that you can return to after your holiday or business trip.

Why shouldn't they have a child?
    While in homeless/temporary accommodation?
Can you actually not see why?

It doesn't say anywhere in the article that they planned to have a child when homeless.
Little 'accidents' do happen, and this is a married couple we are taking about, not 2 6th years.
What are you suggesting? Mandatory abortion for the homeless. :D

P.S- I certainly don't think its an ideal situation by any means for anyone, parents or unborn child

I'm suggesting making sure you don't get yourself pregnant while in homeless accommodation.
Exactly my point, a married couple, not two sixth years, should have more sense.

You're right it's not an ideal situation for the kids, but who put them into that situation? Their irresponsible sponger parents and their hair brained scheme to throw a temper tantrum at SDCC to try get their free gaff quicker

Things happen, you're right and I wouldn't hold the pregnancy against them. I do think that seeing as there are families with kids living in hotels longer who are trying to help themselves they deserve it more.

Ah bashing the homeless is fairly low hanging fruit based off a journal.ie article. Very easy to slag those most in need.

I love that. We're both too sick to work, serious medical conditions but putting my body under the strain of nourishing and nurturing a baby and giving birth to it, then being able to care for a helpless defenceless baby -- no problem.

I love how housing, clothing, food etc seems to be an after thought for people getting pregnant these days.

Well said. A poster above said something about people attacking 'those most in need'. Most in need my arse. They're just the latest woe is me story.

This has always been happening. It's just more visible in the news lately because with rents rising and less properties available, more and more of these types are chancing their arm with 'goin ta de papers abourrih' or 'going homeless' to try and jump the que to get a council house quicker.

A few weeks ago we had a similar couple with a similar story looking out at us with sad faces from the front page of The Star, then they went on the radio but slipped up and were exposed as having pocketed the rent allowance for 8 months

They'd more than likely already have a place if they hadn't cancelled their application in Longford

Pure opportunists, using their situation as a means of relocating to an area where it costs more to house them. Selfish fcukers

They done it to themselves by fancying a free move to Dublin instead of staying in Longford where they would more than likely be in a house rather than a hotel. Most in need my ass. Opportunists springs to mind.

    What does that say exactly?

It says that the majority of people with that surname are from that certain section of society who claim every possible benefit available from the state while somehow at the same time manage to drive around in brand new cars and spend tens of thousands on tacky communions and weddings without anyone questioning it for fear of being labelled racist against their culture

Arra sure they're Irish, probably 18 kids and he beats her and drinks too much and their diet is pure potato and they scam social welfare and love Conor McGregor.

Well, seeing as you like gross generalisations that may not in any way reflect the couple in this case. I mean, on the basis of their surname you start banging on about cars and Communions...that's pretty remarkable.

Edgeworthstown is fairly stuffed with these families who agreed to move down there from Dublin, with the train nearby and an incredibly reckless run of development from 2002-2008 of houses. Can't imagine any of them are happy they moved down there but they're stuck there now.

I was talking to someone a bit ago about how they were in Edgeworthstown about 20 years ago and had a really nice time there, the notion of anyone having a nice time there is just bonkers to me now. It's nothing even to do with the families from Dublin, it's a place that has NOTHING but housing estates and a train station, can't blame them for wanting out but they're basically suing the council for not tolerating their complete recklessness and stupidity to cancel their request in Longford before even checking what the situation was in Dublin.
