    Hi all.

In the process of getting a new car and want to trade my old one in..

I know dealers need to make money so I won't get full value.. But what would I get if I didn't trade in and sold privately

    06 Honda accord sport
    2liter petrol
    Half leather.
    Cruise control
    Air con

There are little bits of damage here and there.. Someone tried to break in so little damage to doors..

    Scratches here and there..
    Pics attached

    Thanks

2.0 petrol is going to absolutely kill the value, there's a 2005 one on donedeal silver with 110 k miles asking 1950,

Look at the offers they're getting though. Would you be happy to swap for an old DVD player or a ps3 or accept a low ball offer of €250? :p

The damage to the car is not easily repairable especially on the B pillars and so it's going to reduce the value big time. I'd estimate around €1200-1400 max. The car is probably worth more to you and if you were hoping to get more for it then I'd suggest keeping it and driving it for another few years and get the value out of it. You can then scrap or sell it for whatever you can get knowing you've had your money's worth out of it.

Garage would buy in a car like that for roughly 250-500 plus a discount on the car you're buying.

    Example
    141 Honda Civic €19500
    06 Honda Accord €1500
    Cost to change €18000

    Really
    141 Honda Civic €19500 minus discount = €18500
    06 Honda Accord €500
    Cost to change €18000

In this case, if you sold the Accord privately for €1k and got the Civic for €18500, you're €500 better off.
    Made-up figures obv.

    2L petrol = 710 tax in a year
A lot of people are focussed on tax for some reason, so large engines are not desirable.

Just an update.. Got 1500 trade in... I visited the place 3 times over the few days to view the car /test drive/sign few things..

Not once did they look at the car.. Even when picking up my new car and handing it over.. All they did was ask for log book and key. There was no parking close by to parked about 2 min walk away.. Just told them where it was !!

    Found that strange

In reality they have your car for nothing. They probably had a few grand profit in the civic so regardless of what they get for your car, they're up. You could have traded a 00 Micra with 600k miles on the clock and the civic would have cost you the same.

Out of interest what kind of accord did you trade? Petrol or diesel and what mileage was on it? If the car was in reasonable condition you could have got a lot more for it selling it privately.

see post #8. They likely got it for a few hundred so weren't bothered what it was like,
Well wear with the new car. Hope you're lucky with it.
