Can a garda disclose confidential police information to a landlord

Can a police officer advise a landlord of alleged offences, legally?

Say for e.g., a tenant has been investigated for theft, but never convicted, is it legal for a garda to advise a landlord of the investigation which resulted in no conviction?

No it's not, that would be a data protection breach and a very serious one.

They were talking in relation to an investigation of drugging - made by me. The landlord claims that the police advised him to evict us as tenants as we were trouble (neither of us have ever been convicted of anything!). One of us was investigated for a crime and found not guilty. It wasn't theft.

You seem to be making a number of assumptions 1 that the Garda actually said what the LL alleged, 2 even if the Garda said "you or your friend" are trouble there is no evidence that that is anything other than the opinion of the Garda. 3 there is nothing in what you say the LL said that states the Garda breached data protection.

Some landlords are trying to evict people on spurious grounds so they can re-let the property at a higher rent.

A landlord can evict someone for current anti-social behaviour - after they go through the proper procedures. Assuming you have nothing to worry about, let him raise it with the PRTB. You might remind him that the PRTB comes down hard on landlords who try to illegally evict tenants.

If you feel that you have been in anyway in breach of your contract and/or engaged in anti-social behaviour, tread much more carefully. you might consider talking to www.threshold.ie or similar.
