    What's the latest firmware ?

Having a problem with ambient notifications on viper. Black text on black backgrounds and sometimes white text on white backgrounds. But as soon as I wake up the screen it's readable. I did the usual thing in viper settings -> colours, misc etc..

Also, for some reason since latest viper update, the only mobile data that works on VF is 3g. With 4g, symbol still shows but zero internet connectivity. Now it may be a problem with a mast in my area as 3 miles down the road it's grand. But as 2g/3g/4g/auto is selected it should not be showing 4g and drop down to 3g. When I select 2g/3g/auto it works fine, but obviously way slower. Might go back to stock to see what happens.

    Latest firmware is 1.90.xxx

Are you using a theme? My theme and the new notification theming might cause issues with ambient. I have to look.

No probs with 4g that I've noticed.

Was out with the kids at the weekend using mini go carts, ones you pedal.
Dropped phone out of pocket, and it remained safe in the ice view case...... Even took a go cart driving over it and left a nice wheel mark right down the case. The mark wouldn't wipe off.... Had to wash it so must have gone over it pretty heavy.
Phone is perfect, cover is perfect. Never would know it took a beating.....

Got the ice view today. Returned it twice and not even got a chance to put phone into it. First one was scratched up inside and out, 2nd one which I opened in shop was scratched up on inside. Absolutely awful QC from whoever makes these.

Yeah, I'm using your theme :)

I'm on 1.80.401.3. What is the easiest way to get the latest firmware ? Would prefer an RUU or OTA.
Seems to be a problem if your in a weak signal LTE area the radio keeps flipping between towers. This is likely why I suddenly have no 4G at home but works fine in city. More annoying is software has obvious bug where it shows 4G signal when there is none, and won't flip to 3G automatically like it should.

The last poster on the thread below solved it with the 1.9X firmware.

Your just flash the firmware from Sneakyghost's thread. I don't know what your obsession is with RUU's :p

I like RUU's or OTA's because it's the safest. Even Sneaky says it :)

Ok, so say I use a firmware from SneakyGhost. Do I go full stock or no wipe ?
I am thinking 'Combined No Wipe' is safest, and does it matter what rom I have (stock or viper) when flashing ?

Yeah, combined no wipe. Won't matter what you're on.

Sneaky very rarely uses an RUU. He just says that to cover his arse.

Great stuff. Actually last night I was trying to get to bottom of 4G issues and I flashed the 1.80.401.1 combined RUU back. So phone is back to stock and obviously unrooted. But I still have S-Off. Is is still possible to flash combined no-wipe from download mode using fast boot or do I need root ? If so, then after I would just boot into the TWRP this firmware installs and recover my Viper android.

I assume you normally just leave your rom as is, flash sneaky's no-wipe, and then re flash a viper nandroid after ?

I don't think it will allow you to flash that firmware from the state you're in, but I've never tried that. I'm no expert in firmware stuff, and I am hardly ever in a stock state.

The new venom rom is 1.90 base, so i just went to download mode, flashed 1.90 firmware, then went to recovery and flashed the viper 2.6 (1.90 base) ROM. New ROM has edits to some framework jars, so it has to do a full cache rebuild after flashing - takes a good 20+ mins to boot.

Thanks. The way you did it, is exactly as i would have done if I was putting Viper 2.6 on. I will just reroot my phone before doing the firmware flash / viper flash.

Ice view case surely not worth double the price of all the rest?

If you value the functionality then perhaps. My issue was the crap quality of the materials.

Just buy a rip-off from eBay or something. Apparently there's one with a clear back which is quite nice.

Just looking through Argos UK website and they have the HTC10 sim free for sale @ £569.95. No store collection, home delivery. Does anyone know if I'll be able to order this through Parcel Motel, thanks.

Don't know if I did something or not but all my boards pages are showing up in stupid large fonts on my 10. :(

So I rooted and installed latest 1.90 firmware from Sneaky Ghost. Had to flash twice as per instructions as I received the expected 'FAILED (remote: 90 boot pre-update! please flush image again immediately)' on the console, so it rebooted automatically into download mode and I flashed again and got the 'Update zip file OK' message. Sure enough download mode shows 1.90.XX.X (did a fastboot getvar version-main) but when I reboot the phone it still shows 1.80.401.3 when I go into settings About. Currently on stock rom. I am thinking that perhaps the build.prop didn't update on the rom to reflect the firmware revision and I am guessing it is not supposed to as this is purely a firmware update ? Am I good to go with flashing latest Viper rom ?

HTC are currently doing £100 off, so you can get it for £469 + Parcel motel. Works out insanely cheap, at like €560-570.

Yeah, that screen is just reading the value from your current build.prop. Once you flash the latest ROM, it will update.

Is it worth it. I am in the market for phone have Both the M8 and M9 (hate the M9) but carrier doesn't offer it so I am trying to debate whether to buy this sim free, or wait for device later in the year like the Nexus range?

I get all the HTC's so not really the person to ask. It's much better than the M9.....I would say it's on par with how good the M8 was, but with a much better camera in comparison.

Thanks Basil3, hate reading review sites on phones as it all depends on their various hardware fan boy status, always prefered the user experience!

Wife has the Sammy 7 edge and its a beautiful phone but hate they OS even though its much lighter. grrrr Maybe should sit on the fence a little longer

Nexus starting price can be high fro the first few months too, I know the 6P started at £450 and even the 5x was £340. You will probably have to wait a bit for a good price on them too.

Well its not far off the HTC 10 at the moment, hell and if Sterling is still tanking by then could be good deal :)

I'm in the same boat as you. I want some concrete specs on the HTC Nexus' before I decide but no idea when we'll get those.

Sailfish sounds like it'll be the one for me if the specs are any decent. Marlin is rumoured to be 5.5" which is much too big for me.

Yay, got mine on Meteor today :) I had already ordered screen protectors from eBay in anticipation, they are AWFUL but will have to do for the moment. What do you recommend ?

I'd recommend not bothering with one.

Really? Why? I throw my phone in my bag, worried about the screen. Are they not necessary

Well I guess if you blatantly throw your phone around in with keys and all sorts of stuff, then you could use one. I haven't seen any that don't look bad though....this will always be the case with a 2.5D/curved screen.

Personally, I try to be sensible with my phone. Another option is a flip cover for when you throw it in a bag with other stuff.

Very recommend the spigen rugged case along with a tempered glass screen protector.
